Stand for my Minimoog Voyager

Hi all, excited to be here, finally owning a piece of history that I can now call my pride and joy and a centerpiece for my production.

I apologize if this topic has been addressed already, but I performed a search in this forum and couldn’t come up with anything. I am currently using the Voyager on my desk, but it isn’t a huge desk and I need to make room for other things. I’ve done endless searches on Google and can’t seem to come up with a definitive answer: is there any stand, that is safe for this amazing instrument? Or even a dedicated stand specifically made for the Voyager? Having already spent a pretty penny, I really don’t want to settle for anything less than perfect. The thing that concerns me most is the Voyager’s depth.

Thanks, and again, I apologize if I’m being redundant.

I would go for something like K&M 18810 if I was about to get a new stand for my Voyager

Mine is sitting on a 2-tier Proline X stand.

An older pic..

I saw this stand selling for $100. It’s worth every penny and has a quick release lever under one of the stand’s arms. Very sturdy and stable, but might be a littler higher than normal due to the width of the Voyager. Its a grat height to stand and play. The top tier is heavy enough to hold 100lbs.

Eric

I currently have an On Stage Z-stand. Earthquake proof…perfect for those programming Moog bass as well as providing a garage for a Taurus III. Try e-Bay for a good deal…otherwise, they cost a bit.

I really appreciate the replies, everybody, and I’m glad to get some validation for the stands I’ve already been looking at. And Eric, that is an impressive setup. Looks like you take a lot of pride into your work and invested a lot of your time in creating your temple. Keep up the good work!

Which stand did you go with?
I use a platform stand by On stage. It allows me to slide my rack underneath it.

@Erik: I can just imagine the additional sounds created by all the China rattling from the bass!

That’s surely not my china!
My grandmother wasn’t too keen with my synthezizer being in her house, but my wife and I had to move in with her because we became her primary caregivers when she was diagnosed with moderate AD. We have since moved and my entire studio is spread out between three counties.

Im REALLY glad that we did move because if we stayed and my grandmother would have seen that I’ve strung up a 134 foot off center fed dipole for my hamshack she would have really been upset then.

A couple of years from now, I think I will be able to finally consolidate my studio into one room.

But again, that stand works well and at the music store they had 2 Roland Fantom G8’s on it, so it is pretty sturdy.

Eric

Yeah, a couple years from now I’ll need a bigger room for my studio. I’m crammed into my bedroom, so my stepson could have his room in the studio. He’s almost 4. In the meantime, I’m slowly building a modular, starting with the cabinet. Then I’ll start working on a PolyPhatty rack system. It never ends. :unamused:

I’m in the dining room, slowly inching my way into taking over the living room. It’s the only area of the house with a vaulted ceiling. I put up a little divider so you can’t see all the goodies from the front door.

Nobody but Jehovahs Witnesses ever seem to come by anyways and I doubt they are into music.

OT the Ultimate Apex stands are rock solid. I’ve had one for over 20 years. Built a 32"x18" shelf for the top and secured it to the stand with clothes dryer vent clamps. I’d post a pic but the file is too big. Shelf sits right above the EB to hold a Frostwave Fat Controller and anything else that needs to be close by.

Update: Just got visited by the Mormons. Told them I’m Buddhist and they said “Cool”. They offered to repaint my house and re-roof it too. Is Mitt trying to buy my vote?

Imo a rhodes piano is the best stand for a voyager

Oh, how I wish. Unfortunately I’m still a couple of payments away from paying off the Voyager completely. I figure I’ll go for a Z-stand though, those look great. For the time being it’s still sitting on the center of my desk, which makes a lot of sense as it is essentially the centerpiece to my “studio.”

…or a Mellotron.

The K&M Omega is my preferred stand for all of my synths, and my Minimoog Voyager and Eventide Space are on it.

@Erick
Hey, I hope your grandmother is doing ok and that she gets better soon.

Spitfire, thanks for the response. This is the first stand I’ve seen that I actually feel really and truly safe about. And I can expand it if I want to with another synth or effects rack. Good call!

That is a nice stand. If I wasn’t building a big box to set my future modular on, I’d get one of those.

You’re welcome. Glad I can help.

You will LOVE the fact that when you adjust the height on either the stand or its optional “stackers,” you simply loosen the height adjustor, pull it out, and when the stand or stacker reach the height you like, it snaps right in. After tightening the adjustor (for lack of a better term), you’re set. It also has the maximum weight it can sustain printed on the label affixed to its legs near the base.

I purchased all of my stands from MusicStandsAlone.com They provide good customer service and a hidden 5% discount. For the latter, go to http://www.musicstandsalone.com/konigandmeyer18810tablestylekeyboardstandomega and add it to your cart. Then, press the back button and it will prompt you to either allow the browser to go backward, or to allow a “live chat rep” to make you an additional offer. If you choose the chat option, you’ll get a chat-looking window with the promo code. Add it to the end of the transaction and voila! :sunglasses: It works every time, as I am sure they do this on purpose. I don’t work for these guys or anything, but I like the 5% off… hey, a penny saved, right???

By the way, I have two of those stands and four stackers: one stand accommodates my Moog/Oberheim custom, plus a mixer, and the other supports my Minimoog Voyager plus the Eventide Space (and held my MacBook Pro as well at one point). The stackers not only add the second level, but they also extend its base. In other words, the part of the stackers that screw into the stand and extend outwards to support the synth on the main level are actually a couple of inches longer than the stock beams on the lower level. In any case, I tried many stands over the years… the fancy-looking Ultimate brand stands (that actually look like tall, plastic fire hydrants) are too wobbly when I tried them in stores, the X-stands have the disadvantage that if your synth is not wide enough, you’ll have to rig the stand so that it won’t be too high for comfortable seated playing, and the z-stand (which I now use for my racks) do not give you that springy “snap” into place when you adjust the height, like on the K&M.

Well I hope that helps buddy. I don’t like using money for things like stands, so I like to know that when I spend the money it is on quality material. So if my response is a bit too long, don’t mind me… I just know it could be a challenge to find a good, stable, well-built stand that is fairly adjustable and expandable.

My On-Stage Z stand has a springy snap lock mechanism thing…

Haha, well Voltor, I guess mine must be broken then. lol

Yeah, Spitfire, that might be the case. I bought my stand for $80 on E-bay…it’s probably an older model. My guess is, they d/c’d the spring lock snap mechanism thingy in later models to save money? Anything’s possible…
