Some sound samples are up on the Moog site. It sounds alot like the Voyager, minus the 3rd osc and parallel filters of course.
Guess I should have put this in the LP forum. Oh well!
sounds differnt to the voyager to me .more rawcus and distorted like the source. its also seems to have that hi end sizzle of the mini/source that the voyager struggles to get.
maybe im imagining things.
That’s probably the filter overload in action.
I have to agree with Goldphinga, this thing does seem to have a slightly more clear and distinct sound compared to the Voyager, which I found midrangy sometimes (very minor critique, it does sound excellent of course). I doubt this has anything to do with filter overload, can such a function really produce extra high frequencies that aren’t there to begin with?
Though, it’s very difficult to judge from a few samples…
Yes, that is exactly what overdrive does. It increases the amount of harmonics in a signal.
Yeah, obviously.. you’re correct. I knew that, what was I thinking…
(it’s very late here…)
I guess I was thinking about overdriving the filter on the voyager which didn’t produce a lot of extra high frequencies. I guess there are differences in the design here…
(I’m no expert by far, and I’m not claiming to be one..) ![]()
I’m guessing that the filter overload function pushes the filter output into saturation. This would be different than overdriving the oscillators on the Voyager by use of the mix loop. On the Voyager the signal is saturated FIRST, then is filtered. My guess is that the LP’s overload function overdrives the output of the filter section, AFTER the oscs are filtered.
Yeah, that is true. I’m glad Moog choose to include this function, since I’m a big fan of that sharp fusionjazz/rock leadsound. ![]()
Moog really did a great job on this one, they fixed both the glide and the resonance keyboard tracking - which should make it possible to do most of those classic minimoog sounds with the LP (although it’s lacking that third osc, it sure does sound phat!
)
I think it sounds extraordinary, especially the Acid Bass demo. It also strikes me as a more immediate, in-your-face kind of sound than the Voyager (from my very limited experience messing around on a Voyager).
I’d enjoy hearing some more lead demos to complement the bass demos that are up now…
