I was wondering if anyone knows of good (free) sheet music sites for the piano/synthesizer? I’m looking for mostly mainstream music, like Motion City Soundtrack.
Never actually seen synth sheet music…I’ve been trying to find Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy sheet music for synthesizer, but it’s all for piano or orchestra.
And how does one play piano music on a mono synth anyway? ![]()
One note at a time into a multi track or a poly synth… I really don’t think there us “sheet music for synths” ANY sheet music will do, it’s all the same notes
. Now if you want patch sheets for what the artist did that’s a different story, and even there I don’t think you’ll find anything.
Many of the sounds could have been a factory preset, many factory resets midi’d, tweaked, custom programmed, what processing was done. That being said, from time to time Keyboard and other mags will print how you can get close
.
A good way to develop your programming chops is to try and figure out how it was done.
I’ve never really looked for free sheet music on line, I’m sure it’s out there though.
I don’t know whether you can get specific synthesizer sheet music, but the deal with that site is
- Make an account
- Post all of the sheets which you have on your computer (pdf etc.)
- Then search whichever sheetmusic your looking for
- And email the person who posted it,
- And if it’s a nice person, they’ll email it to you for nothing
- But you can also do trades
If one had a mono and a poly and could only find piano or orchestra script, I suppose the thing to do would be to get the available sheet music, and set about arranging it to be played on your synths. It’ll take ear work as well as reading.
In Voltor’s example, one could play the piano chord accompaniment on a polysynth and melody lines/solos on a mono.
In the original case of mainstream music: probably what you’re gonna find for MCS and other contemporary stuff, for example, will be in the form of guitar notation (with MAYBE some keyboard highlights). Which could be helpful for synth lead lines. You’ll probably just have to find what you can and do the rest by ear.
Yeah, that’s what I figured. Well thanks for the help. ![]()
My father has some classic Herbie Hancock sheet music. They will probably have special signs and notes to indicate synthesizer vibrato and things unique to electronic instruments.
Im sure that sheet music can be found, but the likliehood of finding accurate sheet music probably depends on whether or not the artist can read/write music.
Example: Guitar tab.
SOmetimes you can write the artists office and request manuscripts, as my father did with Chick Corea and managed to get some unpublished music (which he later got autorgraphed)

One way might be to hunt down a MIDI file of the song you want (try here http://www.mididb.com/) and then load that into a computer scoring or DAW program that supports notation views and then print it out if needed. Here’s a program that has a free trial and is only $50 to buy (I haven’t tried it) http://www.midiillustrator.com/
Ahhh! They have a free limited deatures player version that will print midi files: http://www.midiillustrator.com/helpFAQ.htm?Help_Upgrading_Player.htm
Best of luck!
Here’s one I’ve used: http://my-piano.blogspot.com
As far as music specifically for synthesizer, I once saw a book of some of J.M. Jarre’s music that I think was more than left/right hand piano music. Maybe the same book also had other synth hits too, but can’t remember.
