My touch plate was scratched up when I received my brand new Voyager. It was the second Voyager I received as the first one had paint scraped off and I sent it back.
Is there something I can do to lessen the scratches. It bothers me every time I play it. Can I exchange the touch plate for a new one?
If you play it, it will get scratched up. Is it a musical instument or a museum piece?
I’m reminded of a tag on the neck of a guitar I bought in the 70’s. It said “Cleanliness is next to impossible” while advertising a spray polish.
Seriously? It’s an instrument not a display piece. It’s meant to be played. If you use the thing it’s gonna get scratched. That’s life.
Couple things to note here…sounds like you’re saying you RECEIVED it scratched. Call Moog and talk to them about it - or your dealer. Depending on how bad it is I would at least have someone in the know tell you it’s normal or not.
I play my touchpad with my mushy finger-tip - not finger-nail - not tip of screwdriver - not ball-point pen - it doesn’t have any scratches on it. For what it’s worth. You can still have it be an “instrument” and not be beat up - just sayin’.
I agree. The touchpad scratches easily though. Using a microfibre cloth to get the fingerprints off of it will cause some scratching too. You just have to accept that it will get scratched. If it came from the factory scratched its probably because they tested it out. Its really hard not to get it scratched unless you don’t ever touch it.
But asking him if its a museum piece or an instrument is a little harsh. When people spend 3000 dollars on an instrument they don’t want to see scratches and they don’t abuse their instruments.
yeah. i received it scratched up. and i use with my finger not fingernails or a screw driver. what you two are saying is like getting a new car that’s scratched up and saying it’s ok just because it will eventually get scratched up.
i heard of someone else calling moog about the same problem and them not wanting to help because they said it’s meant to be played and not to be looked at. so this isn’t an isolated incident.

I don’t think that a scratch on a 4x3 pad qualifies as being “beat up”.

Yeah and Moog understands that its a very easily scratchable surface, they have posted about it a long time ago. Perhaps earsmack is very careful but id be willing to guarantee that his situation is unique.

I totally agree with EricK on this.
Aw man. My Voyagers face plate is all scratched up. Didn’t notice it until yesterday and I’m quite certain that when I cleaned it earlier today with a damp wash cloth it scratched it up even more. Is my Voyager still considered MINT?

Yes, your Voyager is totally destroyed and useless. I have placed a recycling bin outside my studio. Please place your Voyager in there and I will take care of it for you. 
Kidding aside, I have three Voyagers and all of mine also have scratches to varying degrees on the touchplates. I also only use my fingertips/palms to play them. I can say that even after years of use, scratches and all, they are all perfect when it come to playing them. Don’t worry about the scratches. Think of it as “marking your territory” on your instruments. Much like a dog marks their territory! 
I hate to say this but I feel better now that I know that alot of Voyager owners have the same problem. Think if you were the only one with a scratched up face plate.
My touchpad had a single long scratch across it when it arrived and it didn’t bother me too much.
Now if the wood was scratched that would be a different story.
deep scratch 2mm size after twodays of playing, very soft material it seems, well as long as it works and doesn’t go deeper/further
I wonder if putting a sheet of thin plastic over the surface (LCD protection sheet?) would negatively affect its playability? Has anyone tried this?

My KP3 came with a sheet of that same thin film for the purpose. I haven’t tried it on the Voyager, but cannot see any reason why it wouldn’t be fine. The only problem is sizing it so it doesn’t slide around. You have to cut it a bit larger than the pad.
Got plenty of it from the last monitor I bought.
