So I primarily run my Voyager in mono due to the fact that I’ve got the right output going back into the mix input for a little distortion, etc. The problem I have is that on alot of the stock patches I have to turn the Pedal/On Mod Buss amount down to 0 to avoid a “phasing” for lack of a better term. It seems that alot of patches have OSC 3 modulating the filter spacing (if I recall correctly) and this just doesn’t work well in mono - basically causing the volume of the patch to waiver up and down. Putting the machine in stereo makes this come out in the wash and the effect is less noticeable.
So, my question is, short of just “fixing” the patches that use this method how I mentioned above (cranking amount to 0) it might be nice to have a software feature that I could set globally that said “even though I have something plugged into the right output, I’m really running this thing in mono.” This setting might “take care of” some of these types of issues for me regarding the filter spacing, etc.
Any thoughts?
As an aside - any new Voyager OS updates coming along?
The MOD1 input controls the Pedal/On bus, just like the Mod Wheel controls the Mod Wheel Mod Bus. SO, if you plug an expression pedal into the MOD1 jack and leave it in the heel position the Ped/On Mod bus will be shut off until you advance the expression pedal towards the toe position. This would be an easy way to deal with this without any programming…
With nothing plugged into the MOD1 input, the tip of that jack is normalled to +5V, or “On” thus the name of that Mod Bus…
The Editor/Librarian can adjust just a single parameter that can be applied to all the presets in a bank. Assuming you have the software, you can set the mod amount to 0 for all presets in a bank, then save that bank as a “Mono Only” version. Use the ‘Mono Only’ bank when needed.
The Voyager can’t tell whether it’s running in stereo or mono (the OS can’t monitor the output configuration), so a software feature like you’re describing can’t be implemented, although it would certain be convenient if it could operate that way.
Aha! Thanks Steve. Ya know, I have my EP-1 in MOD1 and I guess for some reason I never made that connection (in my brain) that keeping in the heel position would have that effect. That’ll do the trick and I appreciate you pointing that out.
Greg, it would be nice if it were able to figure it out automatically but I would even be happy with a global setting that I could manually set that said “I play this thing in mono mode all the time” - I just don’t want to lose the right output because I like putting that through the mixer input. Anyway…moot point really since I can deal with this with Steve’s suggestion.
Now that I have an EP-2 (which is awesome) I now have a job for my EP-1
