Just last week, I was re-organizing, building a new shelf on top of the Voyager, to gather all my plug-in modules together. The shelf has to be just the right height to clear plugs inserted into the Voyagers back panel. One cable that is particularly annoying is the power cable. It’s thicker than your typical patch cable, it shoots straight up for longer with little possibility of flexing it away. Finally, if it were not for it, there would be 8 inches wide free of plugs on the right hand side of the Voyager, exactly where, on the shelf on top, are aligned three expression pedals.
Over the week-end, while cleaning the house, I came across a not quite empty computer monitor box that contained an unused power supply cable. My first thought was this one’s going to join half a dozen others in a little drawer specially for them, which I set to do. But this one was different than it’s siblings. A right angled power supply cable. Somehow, I had not come across one before. I took me less than a fast LFO cycle to figure out just exactly where this one was going to be used.
The set-up is now nicer, I am happier. Sometimes, it’s just the little things that make your day
P.S. This kind of cable should really be included with every shipping Voyager. That’s a no-cost-to-Moog little upgrade that I am sure would be appreciated by the vast majority of people.
From the live players point of view, such a cable is not that beautiful.
Depending on the side where the cable is going, either the power switch will be covered, or the cable goes to the side and is somewhat alone on the right hand side of the Voyager.
There are so many different ways where a Voyager is standing. From somewhere on the floor , a table, a keyboard support, to a rack like yours. So I think Moog was OK, when they went for the straight cable.
And for those who like the right angled version, there is always a way to buy such a cable for a few dollar, euro or whatever.
The one I have is angled just right. It travels to the right a mere inch and a half, then streams down a couple of inches along the right side panel, where it then vanishes somewhere at the back of the panel, passing where the former cable would have been after describing a cumbersome loop on top of the panel. Really, I don’t see no downside to it. It’s perfect. Would post a pic to show how neat it is if I could.
Why? It seems to me the more logical solution would be to include the little gem of a cable that cost nothing more at all, and let the user who insist on a straight one shooting right into the air change it with one of the dozens or so used all around the house and studio, at no cost (dollars, euros, trouble picking up one, special order or waiting for delivery). I already got a drawer full of brand new straight ones.
