ReKon Audio VST LP Editor & Ableton Live

Since I’m not the only one using this combination, I have to assume I’m very likely not the only one having trouble with it. Before I say anything else, let me state very clearly that I fully understand that there are compatibility issues between ReKon’s VST and Live’s MIDI implementation. But since the majority of Live users are unlikely to switch DAW platforms for the sake of a plugin, let’s say that “close enough” will have to do until ReKon and Ableton can get this sorted out. Having the ability to instantly recall settings on an analogue synth from your DAW is nothing short of miraculous, even in a half-working state.

First of all, I took Amos’s setup template and modified it to include an audio input track. I’m not great with MIDI routing, so if anyone has improvements to this, by all means do share… http://www.umamichan.com/audio/LPVST.zip

While that works swimmingly, here are the problems I’m experiencing:

-Changing presets from the LP when connected to the VST yields two different results. Let’s say I have loaded the LP Stage I preset bank into the VST, and I have the Stage II preset bank loaded into the LP.

  1. When I turn the data knob UP one number, the patch I now hear sounds like the Stage I preset indicated on the VST. As soon as I change any parameter on the LP, the entire patch now jumps back to the preset on the LP.
  2. When I turn the data knob DOWN one number, the patch I now hear sounds something like a hybrid of the preset on the LP and the preset on the VST. But, that’s unpossible, you say. You’re probably right, but it sounds distinctly different than what I hear when I approach the same preset from the other direction. And because any knob movement on the LP then changes the patch yet again, I can’t tell you what it is that I’m hearing. Visually, the knob positions on the LP appear to be different than what is on the VST.

-Patch names received using the “get patch” button on the VST display oddly. I have a patch called “GOLDFRAPP” that reads “GOLDFRAP GO” on the VST. Subsequent toggles of the “get patch” button yield different results. “OLDFRAP GOL” and weirder stuff. It sort of looks like I’m getting word wrap.

-Patch names edited from the VST yield odd results on the LP. Changing “GOLDFRAPP” to “Goldfrapp” reads as “Goldfrap **” on the LP.

-The volume setting on any custom patches I’ve created when imported to the VST always sets itself to 0.

-My cat’s breath smells like cat food. Halp.

The issues with Ableton keep me from considering the Rekon VST editor.
