After relocating a year ago, I was having some difficulty digging back into the 10y/o Asheville 15. Part of it was the distraction of recording with Logic Pro for iPad, which naturally put me in touch with the great Moog apps (along with a killer Buchla 700) which are so damn handy right there on the screen. Plus, I was a bit brought down when I found I could no longer control my original NY Mini with the 953 keyboard. Was the trigger wire broken? I kept futzing with the 2 CV inputs on the back of the Mini along with the switch, and then just let it go, feeling like maybe Moog hardware was just overkill to what I really need.
Today I looked at it and noticed the jack for “oscillator” and thought “Well that would be a good place to control pitch.” Duh! What an idiot! Of course that’s how it goes. And the more I played with the other connections and twiddled all those knobs, I was brought back to the reality that no matter how great the software apps (and they really are!) there is nothing like the hardware when you get back on top of it. I think I’d better hold onto this stuff and give it the attention that it deserves. (Sorry for the diatribe, but I really was within an inch of letting it all go to a local shop in the city for consignment. Something a lot folks much more talented than me have done. FWIW)
