"Please Send Firmware Update" Error - Slim Phatty

I was playing my Little Phatty polychained to my Slim Phatty in a basement during a big thunderstorm. All of a sudden the pitch goes wildly out of control and my slim phatty display is filled with crazy characters and symbols. I turn both off immediately. I have no idea if this is a power issue, related to the crazy lightning going on, or what but this is what I’ve got now:

-When I turn on slim phatty it displays “Checksum Failure” for about a half a second then “Erasing Flash…” for a half a second then it freezes on “Please Send Firmware Update”. Nothing else is responsive on the synthesizer (lights on knobs, no sound)

  • The Little Phatty (plugged in to the same power strip, midi connected) is fine.
-I can go into boot loader mode on the slim phatty (power on while holding master) but when i try to send the firmware update via usb, it goes back to “please send firmware update”. The firmware “sends” on the computer side but doesn’t receive on the synth side.

Does anyone know what happened or what to do? Trying to get it up and running as soon as possible. THANKS!

You used the latest PhattyLoader.exe and SlimSystem_v3_21_690.hex and followed these instructions?

Starting the Bootloader

Put the Slim Phatty into bootloader mode as follows:

  1. Start with the power switched off. Press and hold the MASTER button; while holding down MASTER, switch on the power. On the Slim Phatty LCD screen you should see the message “Update Firmware? PRESET=Yes”.

  2. Press the PRESET button to continue. This will erase the previous firmware. The LCD will prompt “Please Send Firmware” to indicate the unit is ready to receive new firmware.

  3. Connect USB from your computer to the Slim Phatty.

Uploading the OS 3.21 firmware

  1. On your computer, launch the program “PhattyLoader.exe.” This will open the Phatty Firmware Updater. If you don’t have the PhattyLoader app, see section C below for a link.

  2. Go to the Device menu, and select your MIDI output device. This will be “Slim Phatty” or (if using Win XP) “USB Audio Device”.

  3. Select the File menu and choose Open (ctrl+O). Select the firmware file “SlimSystem_v3_21_690.hex” and click the Open button.

  4. Click “Update Firmware” to send the firmware to the SP. Watch the Slim Phatty LCD; you should see “Receiving… Record #” 1, 2, 3… The number of Records will count up until completion (about 235 records at the standard Timing settings).

When the update is complete, your Slim Phatty will reboot to the new operating system.

If so, i don’t know. I just flashed my two slims yesterday without issues… except for the first one i needed to unplug the USB cable because at first it didn’t want to transfer. After i did that, everything just went through.
