So I’m a new moogerfooger user. They are the craziest pieces of gear I’ve ever owned. I’m looking for ideas and/or suggestions on patching them together to make them more modular. I have the MF101, MF102, MF103 and MF104M. I’m running the Akai EWI4000s through them along with the tenor sax. Thanks!
Hello There,
I suggest you get a CP-251 first and foremost to add complete control of your Moogerfoogers (and to open up lots of doors,) but in the mean time all you can do is experiment. You can even patch the CV outs of your Foogers back into themselves if you want. Just try to figure out what you’re wanting to control with what (source/destination,) turn knobs, and patch patch patch. Remember, sometimes the results can be subtle, and sometimes they can be drastic, depending on knob position and how you’re patched up. An easy one to start with would be your MF-103’s LFO Out. You could patch that into your 101’s cutoff and then adjust the speed of the lfo by the rate knob on your 103. Or, you could take the LFO Out of your 102 and patch it into the 103’s sweep in, switch your phaser to 12-stages, and there you have a bi-phase (best heard by running the phaser in stereo.) The possibilities are endless.
Start here, and build through these scenarios by only making the connections indicated. Existing connections should be left as is. Try unplugging CV connections to see what changes, and reinsert them. Play with the knobs. Be cautious of levels at the amp. Drive stuff, under drive stuff, free yourself.
Sound source to 101 Audio IN
101 Audio OUT to 102 Audio IN
101 ENV OUT to FREQ
102 Audio OUT to amp.
Play (dynamic tremolo)
102 LFO OUT to 101 resonance (or freq)
Play (sync’d dynamic tremolo and filter squeals / sweeps
102 Audio OUT to 103 Audio IN
103 Audio OUT to 104M Audio IN
104M Audio OUT to Amp
101 ENV OUT to 103 RATE
Play (sync’d dynamic phaser sweep)
103 LFO OUT to 102 RATE
Play (sync’d fynamic phaser sweep, vibrato & filter)
104M DLY OUT to 102 carrier in
Play (different texture, maybe some octave up sounds)
102 Audio OUT to 104M Audio IN
104M FB Insert - stereo to Mono Y cable - tip to 103 Audio IN, ring to 103 Audio OUT.
Disconnect 101 ENV out cable from both 101 & 103.
Disconnect 104M DLY OUT cable from 104M & 102.
Disconnect 103 LFO OUT cable from 103 & 102
Disconnect 102 LFO OUT cable from 102 & 101.
Play (phaser echos)
More to come…
Start here:
Audio source to 104M Audio IN
Audio OUT 104M to 103 Audio IN
103 Audio OUT to AMP
104M DLY OUT to 101 Audio IN
101 ENV OUT to Phaser Sweep IN
104M FB Insert - stereo to Mono Y cable - tip to 102 Audio IN, ring to 102 Audio OUT.
Play (tap tempo phaser sweep that has a dynamic peak based on echo strength)
104M DLY OUT to 102 Carrier IN
Play (8^P)
Get a CP-251 to control the boundaries of these extreme results, smooth things out, randomize stuff, and make odd waveforms.
These are just a few of the extreme examples, there are sooooo many. You don’t even need an instrument, make the moogers sing through self oscillation.
Cool tips!
I’ll be receiving a MF-102 in a few days to go with my MF-105M and Minitaur ~
Looking forward to trying out some of the patch connections you recommended.
Thanks for sharing these! ![]()
