OT: Yamaha DD-50 steampunk drum module

Look what I made sort of announcement. Sorry if this is too off topic. Just wanted to share what took me six hours to make. http://www.flickr.com/photos/32147775@N08/3313604676/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/32147775@N08/3313604652/ also http://www.flickr.com/photos/32147775@N08/3313604636/

I dunno what to think of this…but this reminds me to put the something back in front of my fireplace…

I was looking at this beast this morning and decided that it needs more copper and aluminum. The question is, how and where do I add the metal?

Nice job, Voltor7! :sunglasses:

Maybe you could make some sort of excessive metal base for it to sit on . . . maybe with a coule strange looking antennas coming up from the back side . . .or a light . . .

Brass plates and copper tape.
Got shears?

Seems like a waste of time to me, but whatever blows your skirt up.

No copper tape there! There is some hot melt holding the copper ground plate to the case, as I removed the speakers which were originally the ground. Other than that, no adhesives were used. Just 1/2" copper tubing.

I was thinking along similar lines. Perhaps a couple electrode-looking things on the back? Or, more correctly, a cathode and an electrode? Perhaps an analog meter? Some other kind of guage? Lights are out of the question…the power supply won’t allow for them. Then I thought about a seperate power supply/wall wart for lights, but that just seems excessive…even by MY standards. Are you also a fan of steampunk, by chance?

EDIT-Kevin, thanks for the suggestion of copper tape, but I’m trying to stay away from tape, even glue! Brass plates? Perhaps…I’ve got some union jack-stamped black aluminum I’d like to utilize, I’m just not sure how to do so. Anyone know where to find clockwork-type gears for cheap?

looks cool…but…does it still work???

Yes, it does. I applied voltage to the jacks to test it, and it does indeed work. I am also working on drum triggers using Remo practice pads loaded with piezo elements terminating to RCA jacks, as 1/4" TS jacks won’t fit in the housing. I also am using real 10" Sabian cymbals (purchased for $50 each used) with piezo elements epoxy’d to the undersides, and dampened with foam and duct tape, which I will then cover with black velvet or copper satin. Haven’t decided that yet.

Ohhh ok so your pretty much using it as a drum brain and triggering it with outside sources

I am basically building my own electronic drum kit using steampunk design. So, yes.
