Osc 3-1 FM Amount

Alright so on digital FM synths, applying an envelope to the magnitude (amount) of FM applied from one osc to the other osc can produce interesting dynamics in the sound. Does anyone know if there is a way to apply an envelope to the amount of Osc 3 - osc 1? In my current patch, i have Osc off (on the mixer) so as not to hear its sound. I know if i turn it on, i can apply an envelope to the osc 3 level, but thats not what I’m looking for. I want to change the amount of FM, not the volume of Osc 3. If osc 3 is off, the volume control knob does nothing to the sonic texture of the FM…

Now I know this isnt an FM synth, but im surprised that I cant figure out how to control FM amount… The freqbox has an FM amount function… I might be able to use that and mix it in if there is no way for the Voyager to do it natively.

What do you all think?

The FM switch is a fixed modulation depth, no way to modulate it.

However there is an alternative. You can use the pedal modulation buss for linear FM DX style (source=OSC3, dest=ON/PGM use menu to select OSC1), use the SHAPING control with filter envelope. I used this in some patches.

The FM switch is exponential FM, the pedal buss is linear. There is a very obvious audible difference.

Hmm… the manual says that the FM switch is linear. BUT, I never thought about using one of the mod buses to do that. I’ll have to give it a shot!

Thanks!
