Just wandered onto this thing looking on MacMusic…the official Bob Moog Doll! For $29.95 you can have your own mini-minimoog (now that’s low budget!) and Bob himself…what a hoot! Has this been on the forum? How did I miss it?
Hey there Mal…I totally wanted to hook you up last time we spoke…but couldn’t swing the shipping in time…and now you’re in NY again! If only I would’ve known that then. I broke down and sold’r on eBay…along with a little piece of my soul. But at least it frees me up to jump on a few other little restorations! I’ll keep ya posted on any libs I see kickin’ around (might be on the trail of another nice one) and again apologies for not being able to hook a forum bro up!
I received an email from Moogmusic (or it seemed as though it was) selling the doll! Not on Moog’s site however. I’d buy it anyway if it is real and reasonably priced.
I Say “Bob Moog for President.” Of the IEEE of course!
BTW, check out Pink Floyd’s Animals song book (US ISBN 0.8256.1077.X ; UK ISBN 0.7119.1030. to see some amazing music and even more so some amazing pictures of pre-show stage photos with as far as i can count 7 Mini’s on stage! Thank goodness for patch storage!!!
I would first like to thank you for all the Waldorf Q and Moog info and software that you have helped me and many others with!!!
I am interested in knowing how big a Pink Floyd fan you are.
I will let you know that the Animals song book is not worth the $ you said it would take to receive/import it. I do not think that the music in the book is acccurate enough to warrent the import purchase price (Although it is a beautifull book visually).
I was just very surprised by how much Rick Wright used the Mini. I know they used EMS syths on their albums but the Mini’s were all over the stage in the pictures i have seen! Perhaps the EMS synths were not reliable enough for gigs. Dr. Moog was always keeping tabs on how well his synths worked live on stage. ELP is a good example of thhis.
Anyhow, if you like Floyd as much as i do than you must pick up the DVD version of “Live @ Pompeii.”
Best wishes and thanks for all of your enthousiastic synth support!!!,
theglyph
The Mighty Floyd had no problems with using Synthis on stage in the early years. In fact the proprietory EMS Keyboard Prestopatch for the AKS and VCS3II is heavily modelled on the “On The Run” patch-pin setting. You need the sequencer it the KS for it to work correctly though.
I’m sure that these days there are simpler ways of getting the same sound though. It’ll be interesting to see what kit they’ll use for their ‘comeback’ set at Bob Geldof’s G8 bash next month…
I have been a Pink Floyed fan before I ever listened to what we call EM.
I own their albums from Ummagumma to “the Wall” (but never bought the Animals CD, because I never found a way of liking this release). I am not owning the “Live at Pompeii” DVD, but I have whated it twiced with my girl f friend. And we both enjoyed it. So much memories to our wild days
I also liked the “dark Side of the Moon” DVD showing Gilmore on the EMS AKS doing the “On the Run” sequence. BTW: I am sure he is “the man with the child in his eyes” as sung by Kath Bush. If youz see his face while adjusting the EMS and his big grin when it works right is really a child’s expression.
I played out school’s EMS AKS for two years when I was 15-16 years young. It was a horror to tune the keyboard in absolute pitch and scale. And the temperture drift was very easy to spot if someone opened the door to the room the synth was standing. Nice feature set for beginners and all kind of FX sounds. But playing a real sound on the keyboard? No! The Minimoog is way better for tonal and really playable sounds in the rock, pop, classic enviroment. Maybe that’s why Wright changed to the Minimoogs. And the other band memebers appear to have lost their love to this new sounds after “DSotM”.
Tuning the keyboard is a doddle if you realise that one of the F-sharps is zero Volts. Tune an octave using F-sharps and you get it just right. Try tuning an octave to C for example and you end up chasing your tail. Pitch is easily sorted with the osc. frequency knob.
We use our VCS3MkII on much of our stuff. Still wouldn’t like to tour with it , mind!!
