newbie question - sorry!

hi all,

sub 37 arrived this morning - I am officially in love. just struggling to work out how to simply assign the mod wheel to filter cutoff without any other modulation… I’m sure it’s easy but I’m missing something… sorry if this is so basic I deserve a smack!

cheers,

si

got it - source to filter envelope then have the sustain fully open and you’re in business!

press button controllers in Mod1 or Mod, then set MW to 100% all others 0%
Then in front panel in Mod1 or Mod2 turn por Filter AMNT to max.
This no spend a Filter EG for only control the cutoff with the Mod Wheel

Hi Sihaz,

As with any great synthesis tool, there are always multiple ways available to achieve a desired result.

In this case, the MOD SOURCE CONST ON (a constantly full on signal) might be a better choice as you’d then still have your Filter Envelope available to set as you please for other things.

Many thanks Demon Dan. Hope it wasn’t too dumb a question. I mostly synthesize by driving stuff with my Akai EWI with breath control mapped to mod wheel on the EWI and then Mod wheel to filter on the synth. My previous analog, (minibrute), has a hard wired switch from mod wheel to filter which makes it rather easy, but I can see just how much more powerful this instrument is even after half a day of fiddling, (or blowing)! Cheers, Si

Don’t forget that the Sub 37 already has CC#2 (Breath Control) available as a source for Modulation AMT on both MOD1 and MOD2.

It’s called CTRL4 AMT and it’s in both of the CONTROLLERS’ edit page.

The “4” actually refers to it being the fourth AMT source (1. MOD WHEEL, 2. VELOCITY, 3. AFTERTOUCH), but it’s currently only listening to CC#2.
(Future revs. may allow you to choose the CC#.)

By not remapping your Breath Control (CC#2) to Mod Wheel (CC#1) on your EWI, you’ll now be able to use the MOD WHEEL (physically or via MIDI CC#1) as a Modulation AMT for something else (like vibrato).

Wow that’s interesting dan, i’ll give it a try tomorrow. I have been sticking to using mod wheel as it’s a 14 bit controller and in theory is smoother than some others, aftertouch for example. My minibrute translates breath to filter so smoothly it’s seemless. Seems like the sub is a little bit notchy, ie i can hear the breath stepping the filter up and down in the lower range of travel. However, the sounds i’m getting are soooo much more expressive and the way the sub responds to vibrato is flawless. Overall i’m really happy.

I’m still curious though about mapping breath, or mod wheel, to filter. Is there really no way to do it without tying up one of the lfo’s? Seems a shame to not have all that lfo goodness available as well as the mod wheel. I’m guessing the internal architecture requires us to work it this way, but perhaps there’s a software possibility in a future firmware?

I’ll record a demo tomorrow anyway and let you guys hear the sub being blown as it were
