Hello everybody,Im new(bie) here ![]()
I hope that this topic not annoying anyone and if it is please just remove it or something.
I want to buy a sp but I want to avoid screwing this beast up because of user error.
I want to use it with a midi keyboard (m-audio oxygen25) but this is usb only and Iâm using Logic 9(latest update)
So I will need the usb on the sp to communicate .
The problem is that Iâm reading that some of the sp controllers are affecting the logic mixer etcâŚ
And my midi keyboard also having knobs and slider.
My fear is to screw the sp up when I use these and giving wrong midi messages on the sp or even make a midi feedback etcâŚ
So my question is = Can any of you experienced guyâs or woman write a very little start up guide for people (newbies) so that they know how to set up a sp and avoid some of the newbieproblems.
I mean really a newbie guide .(even the manual is hard to understand the first time we read it) ![]()
The biggest problem I fear is the midi ,because I have read some topics with problems with midi (mostly user error).
If someone can give the best setup for logic with sp I would be very satisfied .
So if someone can post something how to handle this so that newbies can have lot of fun with their new purchase.
Also sorry for my bad English .
First of all, the USB input on the SP is the same connector as on your M-Audio keyboardâŚyouâd have to plug the keyboard into the computer, and plug the computer into the SP. As far as a newbieâs guide, Iâm sure there are some SP users willing to share their experiences. ![]()
Hi,first of all thanks for the reaction.
I know I have to connect the usb in my computer and select the midi channel in Logic .
Like example midi keyboard channel 1 and in my DAW the midi track also on channel 1.
If I want the sp to receive that midi data (like notes and pitch, modulation wheel) I have to set the sp to channel 1 in Logic?
If I want to receive midi data from my DAW I have to select -midi in channel 1- in the sp menu ?
Wich channel nr do I have to use if I want to send midi like example filter cut off from the sp (midi out) to my DAW.
Is that also channel 1?
If I receive that data on the channel in Logic do I create midi feedback?
Iâm sorry, I have a lot more questions about the sp ! ![]()
I hope someone can help me (or us newbies) with a handy set up guide.
Please ![]()
Again thank you for the reaction.
Welcome to the forum & Moog!
First off, I think youâre right, there is only 1 woman here ![]()
I, personally, have the M-Audio Oxygen25. When I briefly had an SP (before returning it for an LP) I had no issues with that controller. I had an older pre M-Audio (Midiman) keyboard it didnât like, but youâre good to go.
As far as screwing anything up, you canât do any permanent damage that a âpanicâ press couldnât fix. (Advanced>Panic>Enter. Learn it on that keyboard, you will need it). As far as setting up, be sure your SP is set to a unique MIDI Channel. It comes default at 1. If you do not have any other gear, you shouldnât have to worry about it. In Logic (Im a PC, so, Im only guessing here) you should be able to create a MIDI track. On that track you should be able to set up the MIDI IN and OUT. The IN will be the Oxygen25. The OUT will be the SP. If you are using USB, your computer will recognize it as a âSlim Phattyâ MIDI I/O. In this simple set up, you wonât have to worry about creating a MIDI Loop.
Any device that is MIDI and is sitting on a shared network with other devices, MIDI commands pass through all of them. They ignore all commands except ones that are designated to their specific MIDI channel. You can feed the SP all kinds of MIDI data on another channel than what itâs set to and it will ignore them.
Also, unless you have created custom patches on your Oxygen25 (1 knob goes to MIDI channel 1, knob 2 goes to MIDI Channel 2, etc), all of the controllers parameters will default to the MIDI channel it is assigned to. It defaults at channel 1.
Hope some of this helps. ![]()
