New to the board (and Moog) - [Questions inside]

Hello folks…I’m new to the Moog way of life. Newbie! I just purchased a Voyager and I’m excited to get going, so cheers to all the fellow moogers.

I have a couple of questions. Hopefully someone will be kind enough to shed some light for me…

Question 1:

I will be using my Voyager as a slave (midi) to my MPC 2000xl.

For some reason, whenever I connect Via Midi and add a sound to the sequence, the only way I am able to add the specified sound is with the pads.

Whenever I play the preset from the Voyager keys into the sequence, the sounds dont play in the sequence.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Obviously there’s some type of function in the Moog that I need to turn on or off…I just dont know what.

Question 2:

Whenever I flip the “Env. Gate” switch on the Voyager from keyboard to on/external, the current chosen preset sound comes on and plays continuously. Is that supposed to happen? And if not, how can I fix that?

Thanks in advance.

I’m gonna have a lotta fun learning how to use this thing.

It’s a beast, to say the least…

Do you have two MIDI cables (both in and out) going to and from the Voyager to the MPC?

Yes, that’s what its supposed to do. It bypasses the Voyager’s envelopes so the oscillators sound continuously.

I have a Midi cable (with one connector) going from Midi “out” on the MPC to Midi “in” on the Voyager. I’m guessing I’ll need a Midi Cable with two connectors for i/o?

Thanks for answering the other question.

Yes, with your current configuration you are only sending data TO the Voyager. You want to be able to send data from the Voyager to the MPC, too. This allows you to record your playing as MIDI data on the Voyager.

When you hit record on your MPC and play your Voyager, the Voyager is sending MIDI data to the MPC. When you hit playback on your MPC, the MPC is sending MIDI data to the Voyager. Its a two way street, you need both lanes.

Voyager MIDI out ----> MPC MIDI in
Voyager MIDI in <----- MPC MIDI out

Excellent! Thanks for the info!
