Hi
I have been trying to educate my self and read the forum to get educated, but I have some confusion that I’d be grateful for clarification.
I am purchasing a sub phatty. I also have an interest in a little phatty to expand sound possibilities…
Could the sub phatty knobs control a little phatty? Can I turn the cut-off and resonance on the sub phatty or any assign midi rotary knobs from external controllers to control the little phatty?
I get the impression that with CV the little phatty can control others, but is not able to accept incoming control info?
I dont have any moogerfoogers at this juncture, but who knows what the future would bring…would not having a little phatty with the cv modification be a deal breaker in the future? Could the MF101 Moogerfooger Low Pass Envelope Filter Pedal be used to control the little phatty?
I am sorry for the noob questions, and am very grateful for any schooling on the matter.
Yes , the Little Phatty as well as the Sub Phatty can control and be controlled via MIDI.
When it comes to CV, both synths support control of 4 of their parameters, namely: Filter cut off frequency, volume, gate and .. zut, I can’t remember the fourth one. Look at the inputs, you’ll find out
While the CV ins are out of the factory, only the Little Phatty can control others devices via CV (at the moment). Having the CV out option installed is the sine qua non condition to achieve that.
Amongst the MoogerFoogers, there are different beasts in matter of control:
they all have CV inputs for being controlled
some have CV out for controlling their brothers (e.g. the envelope follower of the 101 and 107, the LFO of the 103 or 102…)
some have MIDI (104M, 105M and 108M).
To answer your question, the 101 can control the Phatty. More specifically, the CV outs of the 101 can be patched into the CV ins of the Phatty.
Well summed up. One slight point to mention is that you can control 10 octaves worth of pitch or filter, with CVs, with the Little, but 5 octaves on the Sub.
thank you for the replies. My initial interest was in a phatty for the analog creaminess, but the lack of knobs had me put off until the sub was revealed. While I like it modulating factors, by sound and musical interests do lend more to the moog sounds of the past not as much as current musical genre’s. If I am understanding this correctly, then as the dust settles, the Phatty may still be the better beast if I can manipulate cut off/ resonance/ and other parameters live with via cv/midi.
I have scoured the internet but I have not come across any you tube or other tutorials showing the phatty being modulated in realtime from an external source. The only vids, show the reverse, the phatty modulating other effects/moogerfoogers. This left me very confused. WHile the knobs on the sub are what I wish the pahtty had, still seems like the phatty has more sound design potential (if I am correct in my understanding)
There was a rumor that the sub may have an arp in a future firmware update??? Was there any validity or was this just strict rumor?
I am very exited to take the leap from soft synthesis into real analog, it is long overdue.
