Hi,

Just thought I would make my announcement to the Moog Muse world.

I am now, finally, a proud Muse owner - I had to wait a long time due to supply issues in UK, but it is here now.

I am a long time synth addict (both hardware and software), long time Yamaha fan (TG77, EX5,R, Fs1R, AN1x, Montage M7 still in the studio) and Korg Kronos to cover the Korg side of life, but over the past few years have been venturing into more “fun” synths: Sequential Prophet X, Novation Summit and Hydrasynth Deluxe

I recently hit a large milestone birthday with the numbers six and zero in it, and decided it was time I remedied the fact that I have never owned a Moog, and the Muse just seemed to fit the ticket, but due to the Muse supply issues, I also ended up getting a Polybrute 12 to fill the gap!

So more synths than sense, but you only live once!

So far I am really impressed with the Muse. I have finished going through the factory banks, and condensing down the ones I want to keep to make room for my own programming.

What do I use all these synths for? I used to gig in a Pink Floyd tribute band, which faltered during the Covid lockdowns, but which we hope to get going again soon… but more of late I write my own original music under the name “Spectral Streams” in a progressive/ambient/electric vein in terms of influences, which I have gigged as well a few times other the past year, and intend to do a lot of writing for that vehicle over the next few months now winter is well and truly with us in the UK, so the Muse and PB12 have arrived just in time!

I am also heavily into the visual aspects of gigging - DMX lighting and visual synthesizers

I am a long time contributor and moderator to the Yamaha Musicians forum, and Cantabile software forum amongst others, so was pleased to find that the Moog Muse has its own forum, Hopefully I will know enough about the Muse at some point to start contributing here!

Hi Derek It’s me David from the Yamaha Musician forum.

I also have both units and just posted a sound check demo I’ll be doing a lot more videos for the fun of it.

I thought I would have the Muse, PB12, UB-Xa, Deckard’s Dream, twin Pro800s, YC73, M8x, PA5x, Solina w/effect units all running at once in the videos. Not sure I’ve ever seen anyone do that before.

Actually, that might not work as they interfere when all running through the same audio system. Might have to break it up somehow.

I’d use the YC73 to control the Solina Strings and twin Pro800s and the M8x to control the UB-Xa, I use the PB12 for itself and the Deckard’s Dream layered or not.

Yeah you might as well spend your time on the other forum as you can tell this is pretty limited to Moog only and even then people don’t respond much here. Not one person responded to you except for me out of 86 views. You guys can do better than that, come on :unamused:

Yeah, the forum is not what is used to be, but now that the IA bots seem to be out, only solid members are staying! :smiley:

Yes, it looks a little quiet here, but still worth joining.

I’ve started programming the Muse now and really like it.

I have to say that having a real Moog in the studio as fantastic as it is, shows me how good the various software emulations are when compared to the hardware

But there is something about real hardware and the immediacy of the front panels. Horses for course of course.

I have no intention of gigging the Muse and Polybrute, so anything they do in my tracks will need to be recreated/approximated in VSTs for live use, so at least I have confidence I will get something close in my VST arsenal.

Do you know if the Muse’ sequencer can automate patch changes within itself? I know it can change from one timbre to the other within a patch. (I’m not talking about external midi c.c. control, which I don’t think it currently has anyway).

Welcome to the world of Muse. I am also a new Muse owner, and bit of a synth addict now. Having some of the same synths as you do, including 2 Kronos 2’s, Seqential Prophet 6 and REV 2, Korg Wavestate, Korg Radias, Berhringer 2600 ARP, and Waldorf Iridium keyboard, NI Soft synths and my first ever Eurorack module with a rather empty looking rack. Not much room now for anymore yet, hopefully I won’t need any more now. I’d been contemplating a new Montage after they came out too and liked the Polybrute.
Previously owned an original Juno, Emax 2, Novation Supernova 2.

Still exploring this Muse but loving it so far. Have had a few issues with mine and just installed the new firmware. Not really had enough time on it over Xmas to see any difference yet, hopefully MOOG will be fixing all the other issues soon.

I’d noticed that there were a lot of weird website links from members on the forum that must be the AI bots perhaps. Don’t think I got many replies to my question either now I know why.

My synth list includes the Muse, Voyager, Minitaur, Sound Studio, Kronos V1, MS20 M, Access Virus Ti2 Polar, Microkorg Crystal & Version 2. Love them all.

In amongst everything else I am doing over the break, I am now up to having programmed seven patches (a few tweaked from the presets, but others from scratch). It is quite an immediate synth as I hoped it would be and glad to have taken the Moog plunge.

The Moog made it’s first outing in a old demo track I have revisited over the holiday with a basic pulse lead. Nothing fancy and no need for it to be, and I originally did this on my Nord G2 Engine, which I think had a good ladder filter emulation for the day. But if I now have a Moog in the studio and I want Moogy sounds… :slight_smile:

Nienor Part 3

As a huge Pink Floyd nut (I used to play in a tribute band, which may get going again) I have then been programming some Rick Wright patches, I got the lead for “Welcome to the Machine” nailed pretty quickly, but still working on the “Shine On Horn” - I still have that closer in Arturia Mini V, so wondering if oscillator differences are a contributing to that difference. I need to get my 'scope plugin setup to take a look.

I noted that in the recent Dave Gilmour concerts, one of the keyboard players is using a Muse.

I am also a huge Steve Hillage fan, so have started programming some of my favourite Hillage inspired patches.

Timbukktwo, you have a nice collection of synths too.

The Nienor Part 3 from Guest is really nice, well done! Are you the vocalist on it?
If so I welcome any more female synthesists, it feels more of a male world of synths these days…but pioneers like Delia Derbyshire were the start of it all, so don’t forget us female pot knob twiddles please.

Nice to hear someone else likes Steve Hillage, I still have some old cassette tapes of his and still play them, along with Camel, Eloy, Steve Hacket and many more of classic prog, as well as new and also much heavier sounds.

The singer in Nienor, is actually Dreamtronics Synthesizer V, and the Solaria voice database.

Hey, Derek- I just recognized you from Korg Forums (owning a Kronos, as well). I, too, have an OG Kronos 88 and a Muse. Cheers! To me, the Muse is nigh near perfect in what I what it to do. Supposedly, Moog will allow the Diffuse Delay effect to be modulated in a future firmware update. Fingers crossed!

Not sure who you are as you are only showing as a Guest (some of my posts have has well as you do not need to be logged in, and I did not realise that).

Yes, it is indeed I from Korg Forums (shame it is down). I still have my 2014 Kronos X61 as my second tier board in my main two keyboard rig (Montage M7 on the bottom), and I think the Kronos still sounds amazing and holds its own really well. AL-1 still remains one of my favourite virtual analogs.

I read in Gordon Reid’s Sound on Sound review on the Muse that there were potential updates to the diffusion delay to add modulation which would be amazing.

I must confess I prefer my synths to have effects built in, so was wondering how well I could cope with the Muse just having a delay, but so far, so good, and being able to modulate the diffusion delay would be the icing on the cake.

My lack of action went one step further than yours, though; I wasn’t even registered lol, but I fixed that, as you can see. Yeah, a shame regarding Korg Forums, as well. I absolutely love that site.
When I built my studio, every peice of gear was carefully chosen- and the Kronos, yes, is still an amazing instrument.

The good news is that Korg Forums is now back, albeit some people, myself included are having login in problems in that my old credentials are not recognised.
