NAMM and nothing new from Moog

 Don’t tell me it’s the Bass Murf? I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you I wasn’t disappointed.

Well, you can’t expect a new product every time!

Especially with Bob gone…

From the threads ive been following on Harmony central, its been the score for some time that moog were not gonna exhibit at this Namm. I think its a wise move.

If they are gonna launch a new instrument, then its best to do it once other competitors have shown their cards. DSI have shown the MEK and i think Moog have played their cards right not showing any new products this time. It wouldnt have had as much impact with a board like the MEK being launched.

I reckon we can look forward to MESSE in March knowing that its very likely a serious new Moog product(s) will appear. There are already plenty of amazing Moog products for us to buy already so be happy that we still have a great choice of gear anyway. Yeah its slightly disappointing but i bet the wait will be worth it.

Anyone take any good Pictures at NAMM? Link Linky?

I love looking at NAMM photo galleries…and drooling

Wear a bib - Buchla 200e pics and other modular pics are there

Those are some excellent photos! Alot of them look like they were taken from analoguehaven’s booth. The 200e was pretty cool, expecially the new ‘thunder’ type controller (very nice). But I’ll tell you the knobs on that thing wobbled to an alarming degree. Just like the SOS article pointed out. It just didn’t feel like quality and it should be better. I wanted to tell Don something but who the hell am I? Even though I could afford one Don would’ve kicked my @ss with his cowboy hat and buchla belt buckle

I knew nothing about moog before this years namm other than that they existed, but when i walked by the booth yesterday i had to stop and see what the hell was going on there. Now, after checking out the website and listening to the samples i still don’t know anything about moog other than that i want a voyager and a moogerfooger and that i can’t afford either one.

I need this. I don’t know anything about it, but I know I need it.

That is sexy.

Oyster-

I was thinking the same thing. You can check the samples here. Not too impressive for the price but it sure looks nice.

Well, it certainly looks nice. Sounds nice too. I’ll add it to the long list of things I want but will never buy

The mono Evolver keyboard sure looks neat, but I fail to see the point. Why wouldn’t you just buy the poly one for only a bit more $$$ ?

Haa, the Memotron. Looks very nice and sounds cool. I did think it was a little too expensive for a rompler, and i didn’t like the feel of the keys. That’s just me though, I thought the keys on my old arp odyssey felt better. But it does look cool.

The real Mellotron was awesome ! That Swedish guys was pretty cool too !
I would buy the real Mtron if I had an extra 5500.00 !

The mono Evolver keyboard sure looks neat, but I fail to see the point. Why wouldn’t you just buy the poly one for only a bit more $$$ ?

I bought the Polyevolver rack synth before the keyboard version was ever released (Drat!). I can program everything on the module, but with all of those features it can take a while. So, my options are to get an Evolver to use with the Poly rack or the new monophonic keyboard.

I think it will be good for anyone needing a good, “more affordable” Evolver keyboard just like the one everyone wants Moog to release, and it will allow extra control for those of us who got the Poly rack. Plus, with the single Evolver/Evolver keyboard you are able to make patches that aren’t sensible on the Poly and vice versa.

I see, I didn’t think of that. That would be useful!

I want one!!!

I’m puzzled why anyone would want something like that Memotron. Considering people who don’t trust laptops with their M-Tron samples could always use a sampler with the Pinder disc samples. It’s not as if the hardware interface ever had or needed plenty of knobs (like the MEK) or they are modeling all the interesting instabilities of a real vintage one

It looks cool and is a lot more portable thanthe real thing. I agree it doesn’t sound that good though.

Why would anyone want something like a Nord Electro when the Scarbee samples are a hundred times better? PERFORMANCE!

I’m not seriously condisering buying one, I just thought it looked sexy.

Though with the Nord Electro there’s a whole audience of songwriter/performers and artists in a number of genres that don’t have/use a lot of technology to begin with (and of course they model the B3 though that’s far from a unique to the electro). With a keyboard containing just mellotron sounds there’s I guess just performing prog artists and a few EM artists who don’t want to deal with a sampler or have an out of date PC. It would make more sense to have a unit, like the Electro, that covers more of the basics when it comes to vintage keys in sampled form (which of course already exists invarying degrees)

As a former Mellotron 400 owner, (I sold mine in the late 80’s when it developed an annoying buzz/hum. Back then, there were no companies with parts, or anyone that cared to restore them, so I sold it.) I was very interested in the Memotron.
I loved my Mellotron. The feel. The sound. Its unique character and history.
I had 3 tape racks, cases, and the muff protector case.
The Memotron… From the demos on the Manikin website, it certainly sounds pretty good. It does seem a little too pricey. But it does attempt to capture the character, look and sound of the original Mellotron in much the same way the the Voyager captures the essence of the original MiniMoog Model D, without some of the features that were maybe not so good, and adding some nice features that make it a little easier to use…
I’m thinking about getting one but I’m curious about the keyboard feel. The feel of the original Mellotron keyboard was unique and helped give it its own personality.
I have a 25th Anniversary black Voyager. The Memotron would give me back the Old School sound I love with the addition of some cool modern features at a fraction of the price of a new/restored Mellotron.
