What is the best music theory book to learn music theory from? Ok so I am in the process of looking for a music theory book to further understand music, I just a beginner but what books do you people recommend? Can you give me price ranges and all that rubbish?
I would suggest to read the Dictionary of Electronic Music from Herbert Eimert and Hans Ulrich Humpert (1972, Bosse, Regensburg). I only have the german version (Lexikon der elektronischen Musik) but I’m sure an english version is available too (must be!).
It contains all the theoretical background knowledge to understand music. It reflects technical and physiological and even social aspects in a very understandable manner. I’ve bought it some decades ago for maybe 15 D-Marks. Now maybe US$ 10.-?
