Muse Sequencer Input Issue?

I hadn’t had my Muse on for a bit and last week, went to input a sequence. I hit record and then started playing in the notes.

I hit the first note to record it in, works fine. I hit the second note, it records in step 4. Next note records in Step 3. Next in Step 6. This continues.

I have tried to see if this is some weird midi input issue (as I usually have it connected to Logic via USB) and no. I’ve tried looking for some weird option I forgot I had selected, but I can’t tell what it would be. I’ve also tried reinstalling the firmware. The issue persists. Anyone else run into this?

Hi there

I thought I would share my 6month experience with Moog Muse.

Firstly below is the list of issues together with actions used to try various fixes.

Since delivery, the instrument has displayed persistent faults that significantly affect normal use, including:

  • unstable sequencer behaviour,

patch and timbre state corruption,

unpredictable changes during normal playing.

Additionally a new fault now seems to be surfacing whereby the voices when being played start going out of tune which means I cannot use this keyboard in live situations as intended.

These issues persist despite extensive troubleshooting.

I have thoroughly followed all recommended procedures, including:

  • Updating to the latest firmware v1.4

  • Global reset

  • Disk‑mode sequence clearing

  • Full Auto Tune & Calibration (completed successfully)

  • Panel Calibration (completed and stored)

  • Multiple clean power‑up tests

Despite this, all the faults continue and seem to increase making this unusable for me to perform.

I had various interaction with Inmusic/Moog , however communication was an issue as I was not able to speak with any technical specialists all communication was done by only email.

Therefore after six months of patiently trying to get the Muse working correctly and nearly losing the plot at times I decided to request a Muse replacement.

I see this experience as time consuming and inconvenience for myself as I had been I feel that I have spent a great deal of time on this keyboard investigating these faults that should not have been present in the first place. I am writing to the manufacturer separately on this subject.

Finally yesterday after waiting 3 weeks I received a new Moog Muse replacement ( thanks to the vender who did a great job for me) which functions totally differently to my version 1 which incidentally had the same V1.4 firmware installed.

I trust people reading this will not have similar experiences to myself.

Nonetheless I think that the keyboard is a great potential piece of equipment and trusting mark 2 Muse will be satisfactory.

Hi Graham. Thank you for your post. I have had the same experience with my Muse.

Are you saying your replacement unit doesn’t have any of these issues now? Resolved? Because all the same troubleshooting is t getting me usable unit so this would be good news if yours works!

Thank you for any reply ! Best Dave

Hi Dave

I can report that after having my replacement Muse now for one week everything seems to be functioning correctly.

Interesting that one difference on this replacement unit was that it was supplied with no sequences installed unlike my version 1.

Nonetheless after now installing all my backed up patches in both my soundbanks and sequence folders all seems to be functioning correctly.

One additional note on my version 2 for information.

Upon changing any Muse parameters using the encoder on the menu function it instantly gave me information on (%) or graduation of changes being made by me on intuitive control settings.

My version 1 Muse did not do this and interestingly both units were running on V1.4 firmware.

Very disappointing pointing that we seem to be the Guinea pigs here but we get very little assistance from InMusic/Moog on these major issues associated with there equipment.

Finally I also think that they should be offering us an installed Librarian/Editor to make it easier for us to store and use our patches in our sounbanks.

Apart from these issues I am now for the time being pleased that the replacement Muse is functioning as expected.

Anything else let me know and it would be good to hear how you progress your keyboard to a satisfactory conclusion

Best

Graham

Heya Graham!,

I’d like to apologize for my slow response to your quick and informative reply. I’ve been traveling around Kenya for 19 days so Internet et al has been spotty. *Really appreciate your reply.

I hear you on all points. So glad to hear yours is working. Gives me hope! I’ve been in touch with vendor and they are putting in touch w Moog on my return in two days. If this just wastes time I’m going to ask for replacement rather thank return. I’d like to use the Muse.. it’s a great synth!

I will keep you posted and thanks for any additional info you deem relevant. I’m taking it all in and all has been helpful.

Best. dave!
