Hi, all
I am pleased to announce that muse.factory, my x.factory Librarian for the Moog Muse, as discussed on this thread, is now available for beta testing, with the aim of it being available for general 1.0 release and purchase by the end of February 2026.
muse.factory is a cross platform, Java based librarian, with installers for Windows, macOS and Linux (Debian installer package) with “raw packages” also available for any other OS capable of running Java 21.
As a user on Windows, macOS or Linux, you just download, install and run as you would any other native application - no needed to worry about Java as it is built into the application package.
muse.factory can open Moog Muse directory structures and you can then view and manipulate the data, including (amongst other things):
- Open existing Moog Muse directory structures;
- Create new directory structures to build your own data tree;
- Renaming patches and sequences, patch banks and sequence banks;
- Rearranging patches and sequences, patch banks and sequence banks;
- Inserting/Deleting/Initialising patches and sequences, patch banks and sequence banks;
- Copy/Move within and between different directory structures using either drag and drop or clipboard operations.
Below is an example screenshot of two directories each open within a separate window, and with each window open in a split window view, and the left hand one is showing a tree view (like Explorer/Finder and also a table view.
Beta Testing
I am looking for one or two users to help me in beta testing over the next month. If anybody is interested in helping me beta test muse.factory please get in touch via a private message.

Current Limitations/Issues
- Moog have confirmed that there is no currently means to transfer data to the Muse other than via Disk Mode (e.g. no MIDI SYSEX). So muse.factory can only support the directory content structure transferred via Disk Mode for now (e.g. no means to send a patch to the edit buffer, which i would dearly love to do).
- Whilst you can open the Moog Muse data from Muse Disk Mode mapped drive within muse.factory, I would not recommend it, as there is a file sync issue that I need to resolve which I do not see on a local computer hard disk - for now do your data edits on the PC and use Explorer/Finder to copy data to the Muse when complete.
- Longer term I am thinking of creating a Moog Muse file type to make data management even easier, but that is for another release
- Data export functions (e.g. creating patch lists) are currently not implemented.
- Chords are not supported
- I would like to get deep into the Muse split/stack modes and show that data, and also maintain links between sequences and patches, but that requires some detailed data decoding, which will be for another release
- There may be an issue in running the application on the latest version of macOS (Tahoe) but until I upgrade my 2019 Mac (which is not compatible with Tahoe) I cannot check that.
- Until I am happy with the Librarian, it is not available for purchase, but you can still download, install and run to evaluate and comment. The only feature disabled in an unregistered version is saving directory contents.
Message to Forum Admins
I assume it is OK to post this as I have, as hopefully an application of benefit to interested Moog Muse users. If not, please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss what is permissible as an alternative.
