Hi
What is the best option for recording a moog for big band jazz arrangements?
I use a Yamaha QY70 for creating all the song tracks and then assign the tracks to a midi channel. Each channel plays a separate sound on the moog, and then everything is synched on a multitrack hard disk recorder.
Now I am quickly noticing how fast you can run out of tracks, as i only have a meager 8 tracks, that is, with bounce recording a couple more, but never enough…
I am thinking of getting a serious 24 track machine… Does anyone have any suggestions on a good machine and how to record big arrangements?
any info would be appreciated… Thanks!
martin
There are a lot of choices, I have the a Roland VS2480 which I love, works great, sounds great and is fairly easy to work with…at least I think
.
If the 2480 is too much, look at the VS2000, or one of thr BOSS 16 track recorders. You could also go software based, but for me I prefeer a dedicated DAW.
Good Luck
Brian
Seems to me that rather than a 24-track machine, you might consider a complete change of focus. Specifically, going to a computer digital work station. For example, getting a small iBook with an application such as GarageBand will not only give you as many tracks as you need (determined by amount of RAM installed), but it will let you play and record MIDI and sounds. You can even use samples available within the computer.
I don’t want to start a computer choice war here. I prefer Apple Macs and I’m sure others will prefer Windows-based computers. Both sides have good arguments.
But the point I’m making is you might think about going computer rather than a 24 track machine.
If 8 tracks are too small today, perhaps 24 will be too small tomorrow. And with a computer you can do so much more.
Fari enough. The last time I got into a Mac vs. PC debate, an Amiga owner stuck his head into the discussion and said to us, “You’re both wrong.”
Now it’s the Linux heads saying that. ![]()
