[MTRE] Editor 3.2.0RC15 & Firmware 2.2.0RC11 final candidate

There was a regression issue found on 3.2.0RC14 in Windows, which caused serious connection issues in Ableton (thanks Rene!)

We prepared a fix for Windows (only) which is 3.2.0RC15. Note that OSX remains 3.2.0RC14, and firmware is still 2.2.0RC11.

We want to see this as our final release so your feedback is highly valuable at this point! Please download, install and let us know how it works for you.

NOTE: While Firmware is unchanged, Editor is now 3.2.0RC15. However, we removed the “RC” suffix from the Editor executables, so it appears as 3.2.0. Do not link or publish this version to anyone outside this beta group, as it may cause different versions of the product carrying the final version numbers to co-exist on-line.

  • Version number will read 2.2.0, with no RC suffix.

Windows Drivers:
Driver v3.30.0 (Windows 7 and up): http://www.moogconnect.net/downloads/minitaur/Moog_Minitaur_USB_DriverSetup_v3.30.0.zip
Driver v2.23.0 (Vista or XP): http://www.moogconnect.net/downloads/minitaur/Moog_Minitaur_USB_DriverSetup_v2.23.0.zip

  • The driver allows DAWs to use Minitaur’s Midi ports and an Editor plug-in at the same time.

NOTES:

  • Drivers haven’t been changed since the last version, so no need to reinstall if already present.
  • Users must first update the Minitaur firmware, and only then install the driver.
  • With the new dedicated driver for the Sub Phatty, there is no need anymore for the generic moog USB driver and it should be removed. Uninstall any existing generic moog USB driver from “Programs and Features” (Control Panel) and manually delete the files “moogusbmidi_x64.sys” and “moogusbmidiks_x64.sys” in “Windows\system32\drivers”, before continuing.
  • No driver is needed on OSX.

Installation
Updating the Firmware:

  1. Enter bootloader mode: Press and hold VCO1 Wave and VCO2 Wave switches, and while keeping them both pushed plug the power cord into your Minitaur unit. Keep holding the two switches and press the Release switch, then release all switches. You should see the Glide switch LED blinking slowly, which indicates that your Minitaur is now in bootloader mode.
  2. Connect your Minitaur to your computer using a USB cable. Please connect it directly and not using any hub. If Windows starts an automatic driver search, let it install the default drivers.
  3. Run the updater and follow the instructions
  4. Once completed, run the Editor and check for the firmware version by clicking on “Settings”. Verify it says “2.2.0”.

Installing the driver (Windows only):

  1. Power off your Minitaur and disconnect its USB cable.
  2. If you haven’t done so already, uninstall any existing generic moog USB driver from “Programs and Features” (Control Panel), and manually delete the files “moogusbmidi_x64.sys” and “moogusbmidiks_x64.sys” from Windows\system32\drivers.
  3. If case you are also using a Sub Phatty, install its new dedicated driver, posted here:
    http://forum.moogmusic.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=25828
Same goes for Sub 37. Use the production driver provided with the Editor 1.0.0 / Firmware 1.2.0 release package.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Power the Minitaur On, connect the USB cable and let Windows auto-detect and install the default Minitaur driver. This may take a few minutes so please be patient.
  6. Once detected, install the new Minitaur driver. The installer should load two popup messages, asking to confirm the new driver. Mark the checkboxes and let it complete. If asked by the installer to disconnect and reconnect the cable, please do so.
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Check your Device Manager settings. There should be a separate entry for MTR, SPH and S37 (in case they are present is your system). The entries should appear under the root, with no exclamation mark placed on them.
  9. Open the Editor, click the Setting button and select “moog Minitaur In/Out” from the Midi Input and Output menus. To sync all preset, click the GET button.

Thanks for your cooperation !

I am currently downloading this RC15. One should uninstall previous version before installing this one. Should we restart and run CCleaner as well? Or is that too much?

I also wonder, if the firmware seems to be the final version, should we go on through a checklist with the new features and changes from the latest public release? In that way we can make a double check to make sure everything works, which can also be used as a draft for the new manual, addendum and/or changelist on the product page…

Yes - a checklist or some acceptance test criteria could be helpful for final validation.

I’ve installed the new Editor and Firmware from the update tool. The icon for the tool is quite hard to see in the Windows taskbar, it’s showing as black on black. The Editor icon shows up quite a bit better with the white icon and black background.

VCO2 Only behavior is not working again, or at least has no effect when being toggled on/off from the editor.

I don’t recall all of the details but both the LFO rate and the Midi in “led” indicators in the editor do not give visual feedback and I think this is by design.

I loaded the VST instrument editor in Cubase 8.5 64bit and it took about 20 seconds to load, and it seemed to hang the app, suspending audio playback until it appeared.

No other issues to report right now, looking and sounding good!

I thought it would be correct that you all verify that the older beta components are not there before installing the (last) candidate. Sometimes when you uninstall through the control panel some components still remains, so it’s needed to go and check each plugin folder and remove them manually.

I’d also be interested to know if Windows updater crashes for you when closed. Don’t worry, this cannot hard your hardware.

Ideally yes, but more important is just to assure that the older 2.x features are still there, and this can be done against the firmware manual which is available online. I will post the new manual when it’s ready… it’s something that is done by Amos - which as usual is busy with new projects

and here are the new push combinations added in 2.2.0:

Glide + VCA Attack = Trigger Mode (3 positions). Used to be VCF Attack, changed on this version. Not implemented yet on the Editor.
Glide + VCF Attack = VCF EG Delay
Glide + VCA Decay = VCA EG Hold time
Glide + VCF Decay = VCF EG Hold time
Glide + VCO2 Freq = VCO2 Beat (linear detune)
Glide + VCO 1 Level = Ext Input Level
Glide + VCO 2 Level = VCO 2 Hard Sync on/off
Glide + VCA Sustain turned from min to max = Gate latched on
Glide + VCA Sustain turned from max to min = cancel Gate latch
Glide + LFO Rate = LFO Type (Triangle, Square, Saw, Ramp, S/H, Filter EG)

also added: Changing “Wrap Up” mode by holding GLIDE and turning GLIDE knob. GLIDE knob below mid-position = octave wrap OFF; GLIDE knob above mid-position = octave wrap ON. When top octave wrap is on, then notes above C5 will repeat the highest octave; when octave wrap is off, then all notes above C5 will play C5.

Somethings seems quite wrong with your setup, as both functions work nicely here in Windows and OSX (standalone and plugins).

Will you please reinstall the firmware? download and use the following installer.

http://www.moogconnect.net/downloads/minitaur/Minitaur-Firmware-Updater-Windows-2.2.0rc11.zip

I’d also manually remove all MTRE components and redownload and install 3.2.0RC15. The instantiation of the plugin should take 1 second… either your hard drive was working intensively when you loaded it, or you are using an older beta by mistake.

Let me know if it’s all working again… Thanks !

Thanks, will try reinstalling later today. I used the editor and firmware installers from the all in one download package in this thread, but did not manually verify any stale plugin versions remained.

Expect an 3.2.0RC16 for both OSX and Windows shortly, fixing a crash in Logic and adding a new cool feature!
