So where is it Mr Moog? A while ago we discussed the merits of a software editor for the MP-201, and you sort of suggested someone would look at it when they got a chance. Are you anywhere nearer on this? I’ve now got so much stuff hooked up to the pedal it’s hard to see the LCD display for all the lights and heat surrounding it. I’m sure you’ve got thousands of users with exactly the same problem.
I wish this was a priority. I would be willing to pay for a software editor for the MP-201. If it was easier to edit I would use it much more. Frankly, I think it is a pain to edit. Are there only 2 people that want this?

I will pass along the word on this one. I think we have a guy who might do it - but it might come down to whether he decides to go to grad school in the fall, or work full-time for Moog. If this particular programmer doesn’t work out, I am sure we can find one. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience writing for personal computers; only embedded firmware. So, can’t develop this one myself…
Pllllleeeeeeeaaaaaaassssseeeee… sort out the software editor, I’m getting terrible pains in my back from all the crouching down. If you can’t get me a software editor, maybe you could investigate a leg that attaches to the chest, so the pedal can be used on a table. Many thanks.
A software editor would be great but I would hope that they would add the triplets back in. I have no idea how that was missed. Triplets are integral to music creation and this should have been remedied immediately. Don’t get me wrong. I am grateful for the new features they added, especially envelopes. But come on, no triplets???
Hang on a second, this thread is about a software editor. I’ve seen other threads about the triplet issue… as far as I’m concerned, they’re not as important as the editor. Please hijack a different thread! Thanks.
Hello folks, any sign of this software editor yet? The push-dial on my MP-201 is starting to behave a little strangely… a software editor will solve this, and protect the hardware well into the distant future… PPPPLLLEEEEEAAASSSSSSEEEEEEEE!
hey again… currently buried in firmware for the Slim Phatty / Little Phatty OS 3.0… but I am very glad to see the continued activity on this thread.
I think that a software editor is probably the single smartest addition we could make to the MP-201 (well, aside from a CV input)…
The programmer I mentioned earlier did not in fact go off to grad school and probably needs some more work to do. He’s just finishing up a custom tuning scale editor for the Phatty synths. Perhaps we can get him on the MP-201 editor as his next project!
No promises, but I’ll strongly encourage folks to do this.
Quote: “Would it be possible that Moog just released the sysex spec and let others knock up an editor?”
Second that!! -
In fact I need to make one and can do so, being an experienced software developer: I have sent mails to Moog support as well as Amos enquiring for the SysEx spec and have received no answers so far. SysEx spec should be public and in the Manuals as far as I am concerned - it is natrually part of the spec for the product one has bought - why it is so hard to get is beyond me.
It is possible to suss out the SysEx I suppose, by tweaking parameter by parameter and see the changes in the SysEx dump - meticoulus and boring work that I have not yet had the time to do …
Although I think Moog probably should release the Sys Ex info, I would rather they take care of the software editior - after all this way it will be made freely available… it will be a free application won’t it Amos?
I can understand you want it for free and agree that Moog should make one, but that does not mean they should keep the SysEx “secret” as a matter of principle.
If Moog is going to make one and give it away for free, that is great - no need to worry about competition then.
If they want money for it and therefore want to keep the SysEx “secret”, that is their choice, albeit not a sympathetic one IMHO.
If I make one it would not be entirly free and I could even agree to keep the price above theirs whenever it arrives.
I have bought a product that I otherwise think is great in many aspects, especially the physical quality of the pedal itself, and cannot see any good reason that the SysEx should be kept from customers - no way is there any big money in this either way you look at it.
I do, however, want the SysEx for other purposes as well and a software editor would come as more of a by-product off of that.
I find it rude not to give an answer when someone asks for this data - one can choose to assume that “support” is in China and can only answer “standardized” questions.
Might as well make a “generic” SysEx Editor that you can “teach” the ropes as I have other equipment where the manufacturer is no more .. will cost me uneccessaary time though.
