Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and do not know much about the way these pedals work. I own a set of Midi-Step pedals made by Fast Forward Designs that I use to play sounds from a keyboard. Will these Taurus 3 pedals work in the same way as these? I see that they are midi capable but to what extent? I’m just not sure about all of the technical jargon? I use my Midi-Step pedals just to play notes in real time not to trigger anything if this helps. Any explanations are greatly appreciated.
thanks, Chris

You can use the Taurus as a MIDI controller. By turning local control off, the sound engine behaves as a separate module (the pedals don’t trigger it but MIDI will) and you can also assign the sound engine its own MIDI channel separate from the pedals. In this configuration you can use the pedals to play external MIDI keyboards in real time, and the sound engine can be triggered from en external MIDI controller.

I’m controlling the T3 with an OLD M-Audio Oxygen 8. I can play notes from the Oxygen 8 as well as assign the eight knobs to any of the functions (i. e., filter cutoff, arpeggiator latch, etc.).
One could do any the CCs with a sequencer or external controller.
MC this i very interesting, i currently use midi pedals too and i want to replace them for the taurus. When you said that you can assign a different midi channel for the sound engine and the pedals, what features include the “pedals” section? i mean, it includes octave shift? or hold (sustain note)?
i currently use the XPK-100 Midi pedals by Hammond with the MP-201, LP Stage 1 and a Roland Juno G, i can’t wait to add the Taurus to this configuration ut i’m worried about the midi capabilities, thanks in advance
Hey MC,
Can the actual bass sounds of the T3 be used while it’s used in this manner as a midi controller. In other words can it be back in forth between a midi controller and used for bass pedals within a song for example.
I would imagine the MIDI menus are Global, not stored in a preset. The easiest option would be to save a Taurus preset with the volume at zero and switch between that and the preset with a sound. Or if you don’t want to hear the other synth when the Taurus is playing then an AB switch before it hits the mixer. There may be better options but as I don’t have mine yet I can’t try them out.
Yes Music Man, if Local Control is turned OFF, you can play the pedals and they will only send MIDI, they won’t trigger the sound of the Taurus.
At the same time, you can send midi to the Taurus from anywhere you like, and the Taurus voice will play in response to the midi notes you send it.
Note Latch, Octave and Transpose will all affect the MIDI output from the pedals in Local Off.
The Arpeggiator only sends arpeggiated MIDI notes when Local Control is On. In Local Off mode, the arpeggiator associates with the voice engine and not with the pedals. This means that in Local Off if you have the arpeggiator turned on, the pedals send plain MIDI notes but if you send MIDI to the Taurus you will hear arpeggiated Taurus sounds.
thanx Amos!! can’t wait for mine…
