Moog Sonic Six Gate Signal

hi folks,

did somebody know on which from the 6 accessory port pins the gate signal is present?
i remember a diagram with all the six pins discribed, but i can not find it in the net anymore :-/

Hi,

I was positive I had this information somewhere, but when searching through my hard drives I couldn’t find it.
I found this in the AH archives though;

(about the Cinch Jones plug)
the pin diagram on the mini version is pin 1 +10vdc, pin2 ground, pin 3
-10vdc, all output. the rest are n/c. on the sonic its the same, but
at 15 volts, and 4 is pitch and 6 is trigger.

My (early version, serial 144) Sonic Six had a 5v/oct cv input for the vcos. I had a tech modify it to 1V/oct.

Hope that helps,
Nils

Looking at the Sonic Six Schematics ( avilable on synthfool.com, thanks Kevin) it appears the pin codeis
Pin 1 + 15 volts
Pin 2 ground
Pin 3 - 15 volts
pin 4 Pitch
Pin 5 n/c
Pin 6 trigger

Thanks for the corrections

sorry to bother, but one more question remains…

can anyone tell me which pin is which ??

is it like this (the holes on the moog sonic 6 socket, ready to accept the plug…)

1 3 5
2 4 6

or is it

5 3 1
6 4 2

thanks for any help…

Use a meter to check which pins have the +/- 15 and ground… that should identify the order.

ofcourse, good idea. i’ll dig up the meter…
thanks.

Are there no numbers on the inside of the plug ?
Checking with a voltmeter is always wise

i have already solved this, thanks. i sold the sonic 6

it stands on the plug

Hi there, my sonic six seems to have a constant sustain from when you press the very first note. It will track pitch when you press another key but just keeps sustaining on and on… any ideas how I can identify the issue? Regards G

According to the service manual the VCA is IC 21, a standard CA3080 OTA. Unlimited sustain means the VCA is kept open. IC21 is controlled by a current sink(Q3) which is controlled by an envelope around IC23 and IC24.
I would check first whether the voltage at PIN 5 of IC21 is going to zero. If yes, replace IC21. If not, check whether the output of IC24 goes zero. If not, you must replace IC23 and or IC24 probably.
Unfortunately I don’t have any information about IC23.

Hope that helps…
