I recently bought a modded model 336A Moog Prodigy, but cannot get it playing through my Kenton Pro Solo II.
It has nine 1/4" jacks and a 2-pin cinch connector in the back, but no combination of jacks seem to work. The only one I haven’t tried is the S-trig jack, because I don’t have such a plug.
The rightmost five jacks and the cinch connector seems to be a factory upgrade, but the rest are definitely not, and some of them even have multiple different labels. Furthermore it has three toggle switches and a row of little light bulbs above the pitch and mod wheels.
The extra connectors are labeled like this (left to right):
Gate Out
VCO2 Out
Audio In
Kybd In / Audio ?
The previous owner said that all the mods had been reversed, but when I opened it up, I could see that two of the toggle switches and three of the modded jacks were still connected.
Can any of you guess what each jack does? I was hoping that some of all these extra jacks could actually be used to connect the CV and Gate-jacks from my Pro Solo to.
All of the 1/4" and cinch jones (two prong) jacks on the back, except the ones that overlap the Moog logo, are standard to later model Prodigys. Moogs, like early Korg and Yamaha synths, use a “switch-trigger” rather than a gate. You just have to change the gate setting on your Kenton from v-gate to s-trig, then you’ll need a cable with the two-prong connector on one end. You can usually find them on eBay, or if not, Synthesizers.com sells them. Or you could replace the input with a normal 1/4" jack. The cinch-jones connector is nothing special, it was just used to distinguish the s-trig signal from other types voltage inputs/outputs.
The mods you mention probably do something cool-- what are they labeled as?
Press a key on the Prodigy repeatedly while sending CV from the Kenton. Since you don’t have the s-trig cable yet, you need to manually trigger the EG on the Prodigy to at least test that the CV is having an effect. If you plug the CV cable into the OSC IN you should hear the pitch changing. If you plug it into the VCF IN you should hear the cutoff frequency of the filter changing.
Looks like all the modifications are still wired in. I don’t know what the toggle switches might do.
Hi everybody.
I’m sticking in here because I didn’t want to open a new thread for an “old” topic…
I got my hands on a “custom-modded” Prodigy, which hase CV/Gate in and out and I have connected it to a Kenton Pro Solo MkII…
Now the fact is that when setting “Gate Type” to be “5 upper LED bar” (which in the manual reads like “S-trig high pull-up”, then the Prodigy starts playing a constant note and when I do play my master keyboard, it changes note only when releasing the key… and then it holds the note forever.
Is anybody here who might help troubleshoot/understand how I need to set things up to get it work correctly? If needed, I will post pictures of the internal wires/solderings…
