Moog Pitch and Mod Wheels

This weekend I noticed that the Pitch and Mod wheels on my otherwise pristine Minimoog are cracked. You know, the usual place–from the set screw hole to hub in the middle.

These were bad before, and I switched them out with some from a non-working Source that I had purchased for parts.

A couple of questions:

What is the production time line of the different Pitch and Mod Wheels on the Mini? From what I can tell, there were three versions: The white plastic ones, the clear plastic ones, and the beige molded plastic ones that have the little serrations all along the entire edge. My guess is that the beige serrated ones were the last ones, since they were also on my Source which came along after the Mini.

Anybody have a source (as in supplier, not as in Moog) for replacements? I was thinking about having replacements made by a plastics fabricater here in town, but I would rather have some original stuff on my baby.

Contact me @ hek5@psu.edu

I may be able to help you.

Hey dude… I have one original smooth type white plastic mini wheel..
really good condition… the thing that makes these better is that the screw
is under the wheel opposed to on top.. like your source wheels ! The sereated wheels are the last of the styles.. I have them on my prodigy too..

Oh.. I thought I’d ask since your from portland and into moogs, do you know someone in Santa Barbara CA named Natalina C… I work with her and
she saw my moog tattoo and said " my friends boy friend in Portalnd has like 3 of those.." I said “thats funny I do too..” If not, then sorry bout ramblin’..

Hey Nick,

Sorry that I did not get back to you…I never saw your reply to my post.

My wheel problem is taken care of, but thanks for offering your help.

I do not know your friend in Santa Barbara. If I had a girlfriend anywhere my wife would kill me!

I do wish that I had “3 of those” Moog things, but alas, I only have one.

For what it’s worth, my Mini (#5780, manufactured October 1974 according to a paper tag deep inside the case) has the smooth white ones.

In the fall of '79, the Micromoog I played with had the serrated wheel.

Clear wheels with colored LEDs (pitch down: red; pitch up: green; mod off: yellow, mod full: blue) would be way cool, but a bitch to wire.
