Moog Mintaur Editor (To begin with ! ! ! )

Hi Everyone,
I have been experiencing a great deal of frustration in even getting into this Forum, let alone the frustration of the idiotic Editor supplied for my Moog Minitaur, I particularly sympathize with Briman

There are a number of things I have learned:
Don’t expect any technical answers from Moog here, I think the website seems to be run by another company and “The Moog Guys” don’t actually look at it on a regular, let alone daily basis, so I think we are kind of talking amongst ourselves, which can be a good thing, before ranting further here are a couple of I hope useful things I’ve picked up.

  1. If you are using a mac and want to add a category.
Go to the actual application (not the alias in the dock) and Command (right button) click on the Application it will open a menu. select “show package contents” open this and then click on the “contents” folder in the next menu, then click on resources in the next window then data in the next window. Finally select and open the Presets folder. And you can now add and customize your Catergories List, personally I wouldn’t delete anything because you may loose presets. Put your new folders in and it’s true they are there when you next run the Minitaur Editor.

Saving Sounds you have made using the hardware controls (which we love !)

It seems there is actually no way to save the sounds you make when using the hardware controls because they do not communicate with the editor only the hardware, stupid ? YES.

HOWEVER

I found that after I have created an Earth shattering Bass Sound (No I didn’t use the idiotic earplugs they supply) If you return to the Editor and duplicate the control settings and therefore the sound, which is not as unpleasant a task as you may think, you can then save that sound from the Editor, either into the Minitaur itself or your newly created Catergory Folder.

YOU MUST ALSO alter the settings in the “Under the Hood” screen otherwise the settings selected there will effect your sound when you reload it.

Incredibly, and with very little help from Moog this is what I have learned, I hope it helps some of you guys, out there.

I have had a long history of frustrating incidents with Moog, but I love the engineering of what they do, everything else to do with them is a train crash.

I have tried playing with the midi settings to see if I can get the Minitaur Editor to respond to the Minitaur itself but no luck yet. Anybody ?

I do like the mintaur and I’m sure I could through it really far if I needed to but it isn’t its fault !

Stay Thirsty my Friends ! !

PS: What is that stupid sticker saying your bass belongs to us ? somebody smack the idiot responsible upside their head and stop calling your gear stupid names, Good Night to you.

All your bass are belong to us. You are on the way to destruction. You have no chance to survive, make your time. I LOVE that sticker!

Welcome to the forum! FWIW, e-mailing Amos directly at M00gMusic dot com will usually get you an instant reply to any issues you may be experiencing.

I guess the “All your base are belong to us” meme passed you by:

Yes, it IS possible to use the “idiotic Editor” to save presets DIRECTLY from patches you create with the Minitaur front panel.

And, it doesn’t require the use of the “idiotic earplugs” or “stupid sticker” that comes in the box.

Have you looked through the forums to see what has already been discussed concerning the Editor?
Although you’re using a Mac, many of the issues / answers are the same:

As far as the Moog staff participation in the forum is concerned, it does appear too be pretty minimal, and I don’t think this is meant to be a substitute for contacting Moog directly if you have tech support issues…but there are plenty of helpful members here that will lend a hand if given the chance!

Thanks for the “view topic” Stuka. Andy Hughes at Moog Music seems to be another really good contact, hopefully Moog is progressing, but compared to other small companies they are very far behind, especially with the “we’re only a tiny company” routine etc but glad to make your acquaintance all, if you’ve got something useful to say… good day to you.

  • whenever i save the pane l setting as a preset .. and reload that sound from the edito it is silent nothing also switching presets the hardware way after this. i have to reload a stock sound to get sound back into the beast..

  • it is annoyong that u cant see where u are in ur preset list, i know we have to be happy that it is possible anyway! for sure.. but

  • it would be nice (see the point above) if u could limit ur presets for live use to ten, so on the hardware panel ud be flippin to ten setting in stead of all of them
