Moog Graphic EQ slider caps

This is probably a long shot, but I bought a Moog 10 Band Graphic EQ a few weeks ago that is missing one of its slider caps. Does anyone know where I could get some sort of replacement? It doesn’t have to match.

I noticed from pictures that the slider caps on the MuRF are similar. Does anyone who has both know if they fit?

Thanks.

Hey Oyster…

Not sure if the murf ones will fit, but if you give me the exact measurment of the top of the flat shaft, I will let you know. If so then you can contact Moog about getting replacement caps.

Also check out ebay for MG 1 slider caps.. A company called “techno transplant” makes a bunch of re-released/re-manufactured Moog parts (MG1 sliders, caps, touch (membrane) surface for The Source etc)..

And finally you can contact -THE MAN - Kevin Lightner, he has had his hands on tons of these (and other Moog rack stuff from the 80’s) and most likely has exactly what you need. He is very busy and due to the un-urgent nature, he might not get back to you for a while or not at all.. Dont be offended he is just a one man show, and is always inside a synth (whether for Devo or Hans Zimmer  )

He told me that inside all of these old Moog racks (12stage phaser,3 & 10 band EQs) that there are these great little Moog badges, that are usually untouched and lay inside completely undiscovered. I put the badge he gave me over the “realistic” logo on the top panel of my MG1. (See offical MG1 thread pix). There is also usually a schematic and/or circuit diagram for the unit inside as well…

Take off one of the rack ears (side panels) off your Moog EQ and see what kind of goodies lie within… Who knows, maybe there are some replacement slider caps in there  … Just kiddin’/

Hope this is some help O -Rock man !

Hey Nick,

Thanks for the info. I just looked on eBay, check it out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/15pcs-moog-realistic-mg-1-SLIDE-CAPS-newlymade-FULLSet_W0QQitemZ7380620145QQcategoryZ29552QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I’ll contact them for the measurements, but they look like they just might fit.

First thing I did when I got it was open it up and clean out all the spider webs (its definitely a WELL USED piece of gear). I didn’t notice any badges, but then again I didnt open it all the way and I wasn’t really looking. I’ll check again.

The circuit diagram on the bottom is definitely cool, you don’t see much of that these days.

Thanks again for your help!

The first time I saw the MuRF, I was reminded of the slider caps on my Opus 3 from some 20+ years ago. They look identical, although they may not be exactly the same.

You might try calling Moog to find out if anyone there knows the answer to your question. They might even send you a slider cap as a good-will gesture.

Can’t hurt to ask…

Greg

Just an update if anyone cares to know…

The guy on eBay never responded to my email. What the hell!? I guess he doesn’t want a sale.
The mg-1’s caps have the same shape, but are a different color which makes me reluctant to just outright buy them for fear they won’t fit. I may end up having to do that, though.

Upon closer inspection, the MuRF sliders are very different. I don’t think they’ll fit. I might contact Moog as a last resort, but I don’t think that will get me anywhere.

Anyway, I looked at some close up shots of a Rogue and the slider caps are exactly the same. A may go at it from that angle. Oh well, the search goes on…

Hey O rock…

did you get in touch with Kevin Lightner ? I am sure he must have a ton of those things. His email is synthfool@synthfool.com .. Like I said he might not get back to you for a while, however if he does he will most likely have these caps..

-Nick..

Ps.. Getting very excited about the benefit ! Can’t wait to see you there O !

Oh yeah, I forgot. I’ll do that.

Yeah, its gonna be good!

Hi, I know this is a really old thread, but I was looking for an answer to the same question and wound up here.
Long story short, I found a guy selling some of the MG-1 caps, and purchased them for my Graphic EQ. Lo and behold, they fit perfectly!
Of course, they look different, but they work great.

So, for all those who are missing slider caps to their old Moog Graphic EQ’s, you heard it here that the MG-1 caps will fit.

cheers,
