MF-108M Cluster Flux freezing with MIDI - *SOLVED*

I’ve only started using MIDI with the 108M recently, and it has ‘crashed’ several times.

By ‘crash’ I mean that the lights stop blinking, (but remain on), and changing the front panel knobs has no effect on the sound, and parameters cannot be changed via MIDI, and the only solution is to power cycle the unit. These crashes do not occur when no MIDI cable is attached.

The setup is PC-Windows 7 64bit running FL Studio 10 → Slim Phatty (via USB) → MF-108M (via MIDI cable from the Slim’s MIDI Out.)

Anyone else experience this? Is it a Firmware error?
(I have the latest firmware 1.04 installed.)

Thanks

I havent had too many midi issues with the 108, but I do remember reading somewhere on this forum that people had issues with the order that they plug the midi cable in. I cant remember if they say to have the unit turned on first, then plug in a midi cable, or the other way around, but there was def something funny going on with it…

Thanks for the tip, tried plugging in MIDI before and after powering up, but still get the crashes/freezes.

I’ve tried a few combinations of MIDI Interfaces, different MIDI cables etc.

This is only started happening while using FL Studio, will need to test it in Ableton and from some hardware sequencers… I think it maybe caused by too much jitter from my DAW’s MIDI clock … Will try when I get home.

I hope I don’t have to send it for repairs, I just racked it up a few days ago!

Sounds like it might be the DAW or the unit? Try turning off midi clock sync (not sure if you can do that with FL, but you can with Ableton) and see if you still get issues. Obviously you wouldnt have the synced LFO without clock, but you should still be able to send CCs to change parameters in this mode.

I know most of my moog gear (my only midi gear anyway) have issues with the fast track pro midi outputs… I had to switch to a different interface and have gotten very little issues since then. What midi interface are you using?

Thanks for the reply

I have yet to try it with Ableton, but will try it when I return home in a few days.

Good idea about stopping clock sync from FL Studio, I will try that too. That should prove/disprove the clock jitter hypothosis.

I have tried a Novation X Station and the Slim Phatty as interfaces, with the same results.

Solved

Installed the firmware again, (emailed from Moog support) - issue solved.

Only posting for the benifit of others with the same issue.

Yay! Glad to hear that, and good to know.
