MF-104SD

Well thats good to know. Was the price on the SD ever confirmed?

$749 at Humbucker.

Ok…c7sus

How does it sound?

Does it get really muddy at the max delay time. If you know anything about the Blacet Time Machine how does it rate next to it?

Thanks

So it doesn’t have a shorter delay time :astonished:

fancy that

i’m glad i’m getting the Z i nearly tried to spend the extra and get the SD, hoping it would go shorter than the Z, but it can’t go as short.

OKay. Quick first impression. 104SD through the Voyager insert.

Nasty dirty!!! Great self-oscillation and pitch-bending weirdness with the feedback and delay time controls. Think very controllable overdriven amp feedback.

Lots of harmonics. The Drive amp makes you forget about any darkness. I was thinking about putting a Fulltone OCD into the mix but I don’t think that’s gonna be necessary now.

Clean tones tomorrow!

It’s interesting that you ran the 104 in the Voyager insert. The VCO’s are always running that way. That is the VCO are pretty much droneing without any space.

I hadn’t thought of that.

I’ve just been fooling about with a 74 SG through a JoeMeek VC6Q into the 104SD.

Does a pretty good slap, Gets noticably dark quickly though with guitar.

does it look the same as everything else?

Just got the SD today. Shortest delay time is 60 milliseconds. The top of it is at 1400 milliseconds. Its wonderful. kind of surprising to hear an analog delay go that long. Getting it to feedback at its longest time is unreal.

how does the sound compare to the MF-104? Does the MF-104SD get that high pitched clock noise like the MF-104 on the longer settings?

Why bot post some pictures?
and some sound files?

what’s the high-pitched clock sound you’re describing? what do you mean?

i set them both up around the same milliseconds IMO they sound very similar.build quality looks very similar as well.the SD is using MN3008’s,i wonder if the 104Z will use MN3005?the clock noise i haven’t really thought about yet.

Just got my MF-104SD #009 yesterday and Damn!!! This thing is the Holy grail of delays. This thing sounds so sick!!! OK First off the Short setting is pretty clear in the bandwidth I’ve used it on Korg Ms-10, SK-1 and a epiphone Les paul elite plus. It sounds awesome on guitar and the drive is cranked to about 3/4 and output to 1/2 and it sounds totally clean. The short delay all the way down is like a bathtub reverb or some call it slap back but it sounds like a nice reverb to me. The long setting is muted for sure and the vco clock is audible around the 1400ms range and up just like the MF-104 welll i mean in the long setting. The Chips are MN3008 and as far as i know the 104-Z will used the same chips. I also learn that the 104-Z will be a run of a 1000 like the mf-104. I talked to a moog sales person about a month ago and I was told after I found Bob past (God rest his soul) that their goal was 1000 for the Z. Also that the SD has already shipped and were all gone, this a little more than a month ago. So If you can find a SD good luck. I guess 250 where made and 150 went straight to artist and a 100 of them leak out to some stores that sold out or have a few left. So If you can get one you a lucking one and I’m sure the Z will be just as sweet as the SD but missing that extra delay time, god I love this pedal.

hey look at this original panasonic BBD catalog

Ok if I’m reading this right It looks like the MN3008 has just a little better S/N ratio and a wider frequency responce than the MN3005, so if any thing the new MF-104’s will have a little cleaner sound and wider bandwidth. Just a little but it’s a difference. If any one can tell the difference who knows but the chips look pretty close to each other.

I got my SD last night. my god, the thing is amazing. far far far and away better than my MF-104. I’ll report more after the weekend.

ok. have the SD in the rig now. very very impressed. I first took it and A/B’d it with the MF-104. I liked the SD better. the SD didn’t sound as distorted/overdriven in the repeats. it’s still the lo-fi analog sound, of course, but much clearer.

the long setting is a little less so, of course. but the fact that you can get 700 ms on the low setting makes it almost a moot point. man I love this thing.

sooooooo… everyone do yourselves a favor and GET ONE.

 Bastard! Why must you torture me?!? I would if I could, but I’m broke! :frowning:
Just blew all my money on an Avalon U5!
