LP major slow down

Hello all,

I just got an LP second hand off ebay. Although second hand it’s pretty much brand new and in mint condition. The guy I got it from brought it along with a guitar a couple of years ago (clearly a mid-life) and stuck with the guitar. I’ve never owned a synth before but woke up one day and had to have one, one google search lead to another and here I am with a Moog. I have been having a whale of a time with it and it’s everything I dreamed it would be, I am in a constant state of excitement nearly a week in…

So I have encountered an issue - on occasions, sometimes when scrolling through presets, sometimes when avidly tweaking nobs, the LP seems to slow down pretty chronic and it takes a minute or so get back to it’s normal self. It’s pretty unsettling at this stage because at some point I’m hoping to use it for live show and if that happens, well it’s pretty dire.

Anyone familiar with this problem? I find when scrolling through (LPSii) class bass (34) to little taurus (27) presets with any speed there’s a good chance the slow down happens.

I’m wondering if I need to update the software or something.

Best,

Cosmo

Congrats on your first synth - especially since you made a great choice

Hard to say what might be happening but definitely getting the latest OS installed might be in order.

Also, I’m assuming it happens without any MIDI or USB hooked up? If you do have MIDI data in use make sure you don’t have some sort of MIDI loop going on where data comes out of the synth and then goes right back in. This can overload things and cause crazy behavior on even some of the most robust machines.

Rumor has it that there will be an LP OS update sometime very soon - but it might be worth you getting the current stable release and not waiting for that - up to you really.

Happy Mooging!

What version of code do you have installed?

Could be one of two things; have a look for this and if all else fails, call Moog support.

  1. There was a bug in the LFO code (now resolved) that would cause things to seem to appear to lock up or act very very slow between presets. You would see each of the controls adopting the new setting vs. the instantaneous recall that you usually see when quickly flipping around on the preset knob.

  2. Could be some sort of corruption, master reset/restore factory and retuning is sometimes required (but first backup your patches just in case).

Ultimately, combination of new code and a reset will fix most ills unless there is a physical/electrical problem with memory. Moog Support can help diagnose that. See about find out exactly where it’ seems to lock up then have a look at the LFO settings to see if it’s bound to internal, midi, etc.

If all else fails, as they say on TV, “Call MOOG…”

Cosmo, email me at amos at moogmusic dot com and I’ll get you sorted.

Cheers,
