Same here. I’d love to hear some soft lead and maybe flute-like sounds, cause all I hear in the demos on the web are dare I say “unmusical noises” and hard, agressive leads and stuff. I’ve heard all about how the overdrive in the LP adds to the sound, but there must be a softer, more musical side of the moog sound, like on the Roger O’Donnell “The Truth in me” album that was played only on the Voyager, so I guess it can be done on the LP too as it is a stripped down Voyager.
Xenollop, look up the “Little Phatty Samples?” thread, there are some nice sounds people made. I also like the lead sound on the christmas God Bless Ye sond that was posted somwhere on the forums.
i actually got a warm and emotive pad sound out of it the other day. i’m not sure how much variety in this style i can squeeze out of it, but the one i have is really nice.
as for basses, i think they’re the LP’s strong point.
It’s hard because I play bass guitar as well…So unless it’s more unique I rather play them on the bass itself.
I was thinking about the outcome of running the LP through the murf on setting 1…then setting the slide to different levels…but that’s just an idea
I just spent all last weekend programming new LP patches… yes you can get some lovely soft and sweet sounds out of it. I am very happy with a couple of them in particular; add some lush reverb or filtered delay and you are floating in the clouds… Tip: for sweet, keep overload off, be sure to adjust your envelope times to taste, keep the filter turned down a bit and be mindful of how much filter modulation you use. Also be sure to adjust the oscillator levels relative to each other; full-on is often too much if you are trying for a restrained sound. Start with a single triangle wave and then bring in small amounts of the other oscillator; play with the waveform of the quieter oscillator until it reinforces the harmonics you are wanting to hear. Just a few ideas to get you started…
I’ve been getting some very nice ambient “mellotron” type sounds out of it and then
modulating the filter to play the harmonics. Stick a bit of tape echo on it
and it sounds amazing! Until the LP, I was only able to get this sound with my Model D.
The new sounds are for the LP Stage edition factory preset bank… I don’t think they will be packaged with the update but they should work on a Tribute LP which is running the new OS. Not much snow in Asheville this year either… it’s all been in the higher elevations. Ho hum; I miss winter.
Cool, but if the default Stage patches are to be different than the TE patches, will they be made available to us TE users in a separate download perhaps? I’d like all the examples I can get with my noobiness
Yeah, I almost didn’t buy mine because of the demo sounds on the Moog site…the ones in the interactive player. Hearing the demos by Doc T (http://www.moogmusic.com/news.php?cat_id=135) gave me a different perspective. I’m very happy with the LP I ended up purchasing.
I was thinking about most of the demo’s I’ve heard of the Stage and the Tribute and was curious about some of the other sounds it can produce.
Are there more delicate, dare I say “pretty” sounds it can make like the sample of the voyager called “sweet voyager lead sound” on the moog site?
No where around me has one of these puppies to play with…
They’re pretty much showing off the overdrive. It’s just like any other moog, except the dangerous sounds are something new.
I want a little Phatty for the dangerous sounds personally, Moog synthesizers never really were violent sounding, you’d have to go for an MS20 or something. I was never able to get anything drastically dangerous with My rogue, I would have to add distortion externally. Now with the Phatty, the sound just tears through the mix. Awesome.
I do enjoy the soft, sweet moog sounds every once in awhile, however…
The Phatty is awesome. In combination with the moogerfoogers you will get amazing sounds. No synth will replace a bass guitar if that is the sound you prefer so why even try?
If you want that Moog sound you will not be disappointed.
Here are some suggestions for getting a warm, lush, but not harsh pad type sound. Set your modulation to the wave destination using the triangle source, a relatively slow rate, and a fairly small amount. Play with different wave shape settings on the two oscillators. Detune oscillator two just slightly to give the sound a nice slow phasing vibrato. Also, set your filter to either 2 or 1 pole for less extreme filter sweeps, and keep the resonance low. Enjoy!
thanks robles…I’m getting closer to deciding on the Little Phatty…I’m having to decided between it and a Nikon D80 for my stopmotion animation studies in college…I hate the parallel!
in reply to jazzpunk:
Have you heard “Modern bass guitar”?
Unless Tom uses some outrageous synth pedal on his bass I think the lead synth is played with the SH101 or something else…
It takes a few seconds before the synth comes in but the track is killer.
I play bass guitar and love it through the MF102…
I’m biting my nails for the FreqBox.
I hope that they are made available as a download so we can try them out in our Tributes! If not, I ask Amos or other Moogie if it would be alright if someone dumps them & makes them available to us Tributes?
here are some new LP Stage sound demos I banged out before breakfast recently… please ignore my unfocused & random playing and groove on the sonic flavorings. The filename generally ends with the patch name.
Sorry, these don’t focus on the soft sounds as requested… morning lorry, crystal echo and binshaker are pretty smooth… I may try to record some of the creamier leads and such later (when I have an LP at home again). I am very fond of the patch called “Caspian” which sounds like a classic smooth lead to me. That style of playing takes better chops than I have, which is probably the main reason I didn’t record anything like that…
would be really nice to hear some smoother stuff as I’ve already heard alot of the bassy, trashy sounds and would like to satisfy myself that the LP is capable of producing a range of different sounds…
Specifically I was wondering if there was any preset or anyway to get sounds out of the LP similar to the Keezer Lead or the Sunshine lead from the original Voyager soundbank?
