Bought it from the good people at Main Drag music. Very nice group of folks, got to play it for a good 30 mins in a private demo room before purchasing. Very happy to pay NYC tax to support a local independent music store.
If you are anywhere near there, drop in. They have a great collection of vintage gear for sale and also have the Sub Phatty and Voyager on the floor not to mention an EchoRec and a Prophet T8.

This forum is absolutely lousy at hosting pictures, videos, soundcloud clips, etc. but I like the community. If I do lay down a track, I will be posting it on Muffs. Certainly, the pictures of the innards will be there.
I will say something here that I didn’t say there, and that is that if I could only have one overdrive pedal, this would be it. But I have 3, and 3 delays and that’s it (as I likely mentioned prior, I’m a bass player, not guitar). Anyway, have a read and if you have any questions, let me know.
Hey. I just bought an MF Drive, too, but I’m having some trouble.
Bought the first one, brought it to the rehearsal space, put it in the chain. Wow. Looks lovely, sounds beautiful. I have a number of different gains on my board, and it stacks with them beautifully.
Then, it hits the fan. Starts cutting out intermittently.
I’m powering it with a one-spot, so I take that out and use a dedicated power supply. Still problematic. Change out the cables. Still problematic. I lean it against my board at an approx. 45 degree angle and it’s better…for a while. Then it cuts out again. I take it out of the chain and run it by itself. Still problematic.
Sigh. Well, it’s early in the run, stuff like this is bound to happen, I think. Take it back to the store and exchange it for another one.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Same issues. Exactly the same, down to the improvement when leaning it against the board as opposed to it sitting flat.
Now, my thought is that, because it’s happening the same way with two different MF Drives, that the problem is on my end. But I thought I did a pretty good job of troubleshooting (different power supplies, different cables, out of the chain, etc.). What am I missing?
I really like it and want it to work out, but I’m not sure what’s going on. The only thing I can think of is…I saw there is a battery in the pedal already, and I think it’s dying, because when plugged in without a power supply, the bypass tone comes through but, once engaged, it doesn’t light up and there’s no signal. But I didn’t have time to take it out and test it without it. But would that be the problem for both?
Any suggestions/thoughts are most appreciated. Thanks for reading.
The battery should have had a piece of cardboard between it and the contacts.
I power mine with a Voodoo Iso5, works well, I never bothered with the battery, in fact, I took it out. I would think that if you did both that the power supply would override the batter connection but not sure.
The switch is indeed TRUE-BYPASS, meaning that if you disconnect the power supply and it’s ‘off’ it will still pass signal through with a hard connection.
When you say ‘cut out’ are you saying that the LED goes off and the pedal appears to lose power, audio cuts out completely or that you hear the dry signal behind but hard cutting of the effected signal?
Mine is serial # 10 (I believe) so I would say that it’s early also, in fact I bought it well before even Sweetwater had theirs; had to do with Moog visiting a StompBox event at Main Drag in Brooklyn which coincided with the AES convention and CMJ in NYC.
There is little that can go wrong inside but if you look, you’ll see that the footswitch is pin type (vs. lug type) soldered to a miniature circuit board with a connector on it. Many products have hot glue to hold this together, it is possible that the connector may have worked it’s way out? Have a look. (it’s directly under the cover, you don’t need to disassemble anything).
Otherwise, the ole’ “call Moog support” advice applies, it is possible that others have had this problem and the could tell you.
No problems with mine, however.
I have the exact same problem as you with 2 MF - Drive pedals in a row.
After sending the first one back and getting a replacement I decided to use it on battery power while I ordered a dedicated power supply for it but this one has done the same thing.
What happened with yours in the end? Did you get it resolved?

Just got mine as well and totally love it so far. It’s the first drive pedal I’ve gotten excited about in a while! I’ve been using it before my screamer style pedal for a huge crunchy tone when they’re both on.
It will be great for recording to dial in specific frequencies that aren’t already muddied up. Taking advantage of the big bottom end lets me go from a bluesy black keys to a medium gain QOTSA tone. I leave the drive and the peak switches down and dial the gain to about three o clock. I still need to give it the band rehearsal test but I believe that if dialed in right this pedal will cut through no problem.
For a fixed wah I prefer the Dunlop Crybaby Q Zone. Sounds great for making single coils sound chunky w/o getting too dirty.
The holy grail of fixed wah style pedals for me has been the stone deaf pdf-1, it goes from subtle eq to a serious frequency boost. With that said the Q Zone is extreeemly colored from the moment you step on it which is nice for times you want that.
Just ordered one along with a Minitaur. Just to make sure, it does go way beyond the Drive on a MF101? I have that fooger and it would be silly if I just bought a stripped down version of it. When reading about the MF Drive and listening to demos it seems like a whole different story although with the same components (overdriven circuit and lowpass filter) but set up in another way and with different possibilities. But as I said, I just want to make sure I don’t buy something I already have.
I’ve been meaning to try and record something for you but just haven’t gotten around to it and am traveling at the end of the week so will be away but yes, MF-Drive is verrrrryyyy different than MF-101.
All of the Foogers with the ‘Drive’ circuit in them will warm up and break up in a specific way but the MF-Drive’s use of the Tone and Filter control end up sounding band-pass-ey.
Of course the MF 101 is a traditional 4 pole and has the handy 2 pole switch, an envelope follower and resonant feedback. I’ve used mine with heavy resonance and the 2-pole mode on Bass it’s funky in addition to integrating it into a Modular; very useful considering most of the filters that I already had were 24db only.
The MiniFooger has no auto-wah capability so you’re dealing with a fixed frequency at whatever setting you desire with an aggressive or mild boost/drive. But throw on an expression pedal on it and drive a looping envelope and you’ll can get some really good sweeps.
Afraid I haven’t played a synth through it yet as it’s on the other side of my studio but I’m sure it will be a good combo. I’l see if I can throw something together but likely your would have arrived before I can even connect it all let alone put something down which is meaningful.
