I have a Question.

I just got the little phatty, this is my first analog synth of this kind. I have a nord lead, but it seems to me way different. Anyway, here is my question:

Why is it that when ever i have a chord pressed down, and I go to press another one to fatten up the sound more, it like tweaks to that next chord or note played? Is there a term for this? Is there anyway to have the chords come together and create a fuller sound? I am not too familair with synth nomenclature either, so I apologize. I want the fat leads, but I also want to be able to do some really soft synth stuff on here as well, any suggestions?

Thanks

The phatty is monophonic, so not sure what you mean by chords. But if understand you correctly, you are just asking why can you not hold a note and then play another, that’s simply because only one note can be played at a time, and each time you press a key, the envelope (attack decay sustain release) generators are triggered for the new note. The little phatty is way cooler then any Nord, but you have to get used to playing monophonically, like a horn or something. An analog mono synth is a whole other instrument than most any other keyboard, and what you are going for is the near limitless possibilities of sound, rather than harmonic structure. I discovered this when I bought my firsth synth, the Minimoog model D. The phatty is very similar in its architecture and simplicity, and it sounds very good, but its more about leads, basses, and sound effects rather than pads. One thing you can do is use the midi out on the phatty to control a soft synth or the Nord, while usiing the phatty’s engine to layer sounds. I am not sure if the phatty has an external in like the mini/voyager, but if it does, you can run the synth/nord back through the phatty’s filter and enevelopes.
