Does anybody know how to get the original animoog and filtatron up and running? Preferrably with all of their features (don’t care for timbres or presets). If not then the most stable and recent releases? I do have access to the apple account and can confirm the purchase of both apps. However I do not have any old devices that could potentially redownload the apps. Is there a specific older generation Ipad model I should look at purchasing? Any Ipad OS versions I should avoid due to compatability issues? I am well aware of animoog z, I own it and its great, but I long for the simplicity of the original.

If you bought them before, just log into the same Apple ID and re-download from Purchased in the App Store.
From what I’ve seen, the only reliable way to run the original Animoog and Filtatron nowadays is on older iOS hardware. If you already own them on your Apple ID, they can still be downloaded on devices that support the last compatible iOS versions.
For Animoog (classic) and Filtatron, older iPads running iOS 9–12 tend to be the safest bet. Many people have had success with iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, or early iPad Air / iPad mini models, as long as you don’t update beyond what the apps support. Once you go too new with iOS, the App Store simply won’t offer a compatible version anymore.
There’s no official workaround on modern iPads unfortunately. Apple doesn’t allow downgrading iOS, and Moog hasn’t updated those apps in years. If simplicity is what you’re after, hunting down a cheap older iPad and keeping it offline / frozen on an older OS is probably the most stable solution in 2025.
Totally understand the nostalgia though — Animoog Z is powerful, but the original workflow really had its own charm.
