I would like to be able to add the phasing effect gradually with a knob, like with the Lowpass Filter or Freqbox. Is there a possibility to do this with the CP-251 or som DIY-stuff? And I want just one knob, since I’m playing with one hand there’s no way to turn two in a mixer for example.
I bought a used MF-103 recently (sounds so good) and I’ve been wanting the same; I have another phaserthat has this mix button, allowing for gradually pronounced effect as well as vibrato. This is cool.
Unfortunately I don’t see any way to do this without DIY. The modification should not be huge, but DIY anyways.
I’m not gonna mod the phaser by opening it up. Thought I could build a small mixer in a box and put it straight into the phasers output, a tele from the Voyagers other output into the other input of the box, and then a tele out of the box. And just one pot on the box.
For the moment it seems to me like this could be done with just a 10-50k pot and nothing else, except ins and outs.
I had the very same idea but did not mention since it’s not like an onboard mix knob.
Well, yes, it’s the same but going from 100% dry to 50%dry-50%wet, and I though you wanted 100%wet, that is 100% de-phased.
Again, my SubDecay Quasar DLX does that and I love it ![]()
You need a clean blend or parallel mixer. If you’re interested in building one, you’d need something to make up for the gain loss. This would do it: http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2012/02/split-n-blend.html?m=1
At 50% you may still have some loss. You can also try any of the studio parallel mixers. I had a Lehle Parallel L that worked great and was pedalboard friendly.
A phaser is an allpass filter with several notches in the frequency spectrum. As far as I know, the dry signal is already mixed with the effected one in order to achieve the phased effect. Try adjusting the resonance knob for less pronounced phasing.
Indeed:the phasing effect exists thanks to the mix of the dry signal and the phase-shifted signal. I stopped talking here because I’m not sure what MBlom wants:
- either the ability to set the proportion of dry signal and phase-shifted signal (which sounds like a vibrato)
- or th ability to set the proportion of dry signal and phaser-effeced signal.
In that last case, an external mi DIY box will di the job. But in the first case, one wound not ba able to do without DIYing the Moog pedal.
Mblom, so what?..
From what I can hear, if you turn the Resonance and Amount knobs fully down, the effect is almost unrecognizable. Personally, I don’t miss the mix knob at all.
Ok, I’ll try to be a little more clear about what I want.
What troubles me is that there’s an obvious lack of high frequencies when the Phaser is on, even if I turn the Resonance and Amount all the way down. I would like to be able to mix between the sound where the Phaser is off and when it’s on. Dry to wet, if you like.
When it comes to what Latigid wrote:
I don’t understand thorougly what happens inside the phaser, but that’s something that I think is of little importance. What I wish to accomplish is to mix between Phaser Off (phasing effect) and Phaser On (no phasing effect). And this can’t be done with the knobs on the Phaser itself.
The Boss LS-2 would be a work around solution - easy to control, but not a single direct MIX knob. Low-ish cost.
The Pigtronix Keymaster will do what you want. Pricy tho, unless you have other uses for it.
Edit: Xotic FX makes one too, more to the point of what you want, with all the bells and whistles of EQ & boost.
There is most certainly something that will work in the DIY world, where and which one I have no clue - but that’s also part of the fun of DIY.
