I’ve been in the market for a vintage moog for a while and I think I’ve settled on a micromoog. Just wondering is there way to date it by SN?
This one is 7983. Does that mean it was made in '79?
How to date a Micromoog?
I’d start with dinner with a glass of wine.
Maybe a movie afterward.
Seriously… I’m not sure if there’s much out there to correlate the serial number to date.
However inside there’s date codes on parts and likely a yellow tag stating the date it was made.
Yes, date codes on chips (integrated circuits, not the tasty snack 
) can be a very good indication of the year of production. Although sometimes Moog used old stock. Like in my Minimoog D, some chips are date 1973, and some others 1974, although its was clearly made in 1975 according to all the initials of all the different people that worked on it.
But I guess it’s pretty hard to ask a seller if you can (or he can) open the synth to check that out before buying it…
