how to connect a doepfer A100 system with moog

hi, I want to ask the experts how I can connect a doepfer A100 modular system with my moogerfoogers…

the doepfer uses mono miniuature jacks, but moog large stereo jacks, as you know…

vier-personen,

The Foogers will work with both 1/4" (large) stereo and mono jacks! The ring on each of the Foogers CV-IN jacks is used to supply the voltage (+5V) to the pots used in expression pedals such as the EP1 or EP2.

So here is the caveat of plugging a 1/4" mono (no ring) into a Fooger CV-IN.
All of the other CV-IN jacks on that same Fooger have their +5V supply line sitting at ground potential. Therefore you can’t use expression pedals in the other CV-IN jacks when a mono plug is in one of the others.

I routinely use my doepfer modules to control my Foogers and Vice-Versa! You can use either a 1/4" to 1/8" (miniature) adapter, buy cables with 1/4" on one end and 1/8" on the other or just make your own! Just remember that you won’t be able to use expression pedals in the other Fooger jacks when working this way.

HOWEVER, there is one workaround for this problem! If you make your own 1/4" to 1/8" cables and you DO NOT connect the 1/4" rings wire to the 1/8" sleeve (i.e. leaving the ring floating) the expression pedals should work fine in the other jacks.

I hope this isn’t too confusing! It’s early in the morning here in NC and I may be forgetting some other ways to interconnect the two systems for full usage of the expression pedals. Just let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers,
theglyph

thanks for explaining. I will solder myself a cable and see how it works..

One solution I often use when dealing with stereo 1/4" jacks is buying relatively easy to find readymade short adapter cables that go from stereo 1/4" to a left and right RCA jack. Then I attach long cables with a mono 1/8th" on one end and a RCA plug on the other for say Doepfer, or anything other connection I’m needing.

Just be sure the adapter cable is marked “left and right” on the RCA outs. If the 2 outputs are identical and unmarked you probably have a “Y” cable that sums to mono, which you don’t want. (and seems weird who would want that but they exist)

Off hand I’m forgetting if the tip goes to the left or right jack but it’s easy enough to test. It’s what ever is the standard with stereo headphones. Using these cables is an instant way not to have the ring on a stereo cable mix with the sleeve’s signal. That’s what messes up with trying to use a mono plug in a stereo jack.
