I was just playing the Voyager, suddenly the screen and backlight switched themselves off for a fraction of a second and then came back on… but now there is nothing showing on the screen and the Voyager is just screaming some weird sounds… it doesn’t respond to the controls as it should. I have tried swithcing off and on but the same blank screen stares back and the same screaming sounds… it’s in pain !!! Anyone seen this behaviour before ? Any ideas ?
Yep, sounds like a darn switching type PSU going bad. Those things are so critical and electrically noisy. I suspect that a lot of premature failures in many Moog Voyagers might also be caused by a poorly designed, or implemented, Chinese-made switching PSU.
Those types of PSU might be more efficient, smaller, and supposedly more durable (I doubt that very much) than a linear type. But I’ll trust any PSU made up of a good old transformer, rectifier bridge, capacitor, and voltage regulator over any switching type PSU any day !
Good luck with your Voyager, fyvewytches. Sorry to hear of another Voyager owner with problems.
The sooner you get in touch with tech support the better. They’ll take care of you well enough. I’m very sorry to hear about this. I’ll be hoping and praying that it gets sorted out smoothly.
Thanks guys for your replies and suggestions ( and prayers )
I have sent a mail to Moog tech support. I fear the worst,… I’m just one month over the warranty period !! I’ll call Thomann in Germany where I bought it and take it from there.
Well, I finally got my Voyager back last week. Top marks to Moog support and thomann.de for getting my instrument fixed and returned.
However, it’s been a week and a day now that I’ve had it back and it’s screwed again. This time all oscillators seem to be dead. The noise source is working and with that I can hear that the filter is work, mod wheel, etc. There is a click coming from the oscillator, the frequency of which changes depending on the octave switch and key pressed. But I’m not talking audio range here, there is a click roughly every 8 seconds when the middle C is pressed on 8’ octave. Any ideas I can try before I pack it up yet again ?
I’m sorry for that.
This sounds really bad.
May I ask you for the serial number of your Voyager and your location?
If you don’t want to write it in the forum please send me an email to rudi at moogmusic dot de.
And again top marks to Moog Tech Support, they have already been in touch with a diagnosis… things break, there’s nothing that can be done about that but it’s just so reassuring to know that is such good support when something does go wrong !!
