Help Me Design a Mooger Live Rig!

I’m looking to put together a self-contained Mooger live rig…something to play sound effects, basically. Would a MF-107 and CP unit get me there? I don’t want to use more than two units if possible, and I’m looking to make strange efx, white noise, S&H patterns, etc.

sounds like the CP and 107 is exactly what you need :wink:

you could pretty much get away with MF-101, MF-102, MF-104 and MF-107 in combination with the CP-251 to do this… 102 vs 107 IMO…

I’ve done shows where I used the CP-251 and a resonating Low Pass Filter (plus a reverb) to give me sample/hold pitches. Not super versatile, but it worked well. Adding more pedals will definitely give you more options. You can do a lot more with the Low Pass, Ring Mod, and CP-251.

Perhaps. The MF-102 is a Ring Modulator. It will create all manner of weird metallic sounds, radio frequency type stuff, and (when set very low) pulsating tremolos. It needs an source signal to work off of. This could be your voice, a guitar, a music track, a radio - anything. The end result will vary greatly depending on your choice of source signal and the control settings of the RM.

The CP-251 will provide the white noise, but it will not give you a way of filtering it. The CP-251 will also provide a Sample & Hold CV, but you’ll need a voltage controlled device to realize anything from it.

The RM is a voltage controlled device, of course, but given your requirements, I’d suggest you also consider getting an MF-101 Low Pass Filter. The MF-101 will filter the white noise and make good use of the S&H CV. It will also provide you with an oscillator (when the Resonance control is cranked) and an Envelope Follower.

These three devices should allow you to create the broad palette of sound effects you’re looking for.

Due to space, I can only get away with two Moogers, so maybe the 101 and the CP will be sufficient enough.
