Tonight, all of the sudden I noticed that when I was tweaking scillator 1 it wasn’t doing anything. I turned off all the others and left 1 on and up, and nothing. On every patch I isolate 1 and nothing!
Any ideas? I’m calling Moog in the morning… ![]()

Can you use it as a modulation source? Like to the filter?
If that works, it means it’s alive, just not getting audio for some reason.
Thanks for the suggestion. But no I can’t. For example, if I use osc 3 as my only sound source, and use osc 2 as a mod source for filter spacing, I can hear the effect loud and clear. But nothing when I use osc 1.
Sent it back today. The folks at Moog were kind, and I’m happy that they were so willing to take care of the problem.
One thing I am not happy about is that they don’t pay for me to ship it out to them – that cost me $71.00. My synth was still under warrenty, as it’s been less than 1 year since purchase. And it cost me $2700! I asked the person I spoke to to let it be known I was not happy about this, and she was very nice about it. I will, however, write them an official letter with my complaint. Moog will pay for the return trip. That wal-mart of music, Musician’s Friend pays for returns, they email a link to the fed ex bar code you simply print out.
Also, if you sent in your warrenty but haven’t heard back, don’t worry, the girl that does this is just a bit behind.
Musician’s Friend is a store, not a musical instrument manufacturer. I don’t know of any instrument manufacturer (big or small) that will pay for shipping to them, even if it is under warranty. Thems the breaks…

I understand that Moog are a small company but I have to say it is a bit unfair that it should cost you a further $71 to get this sorted out.
As you said, the synth already cost you $2700. When you spend that amount of money on a quality instrument and it goes wrong through no fault of your own, why should you have to pay even one extra penny/cent to put right that fault? Especially if it is within the first year of ownership.
Good luck with sorting this out. It is bad enough having to be without the Moog for any amount of time!
Did you take it back to the store you bought it from?
Kinda a tough call. Most of time you’ll eat the shipping cost back to the manufacture. But not all manufactures have this policy ![]()
Yeah, it’s a tough call, but easier to make when you’re on the paying side of it ![]()
It’s true that most manufactures won’t pay for the return, but they all should. When they make a product that they stand behind, the buyer shouldn’t have to pay anything when it breaks through no fault of their own. It’s not like I wanted to ship it to them. If it weren’t under warrenty, I’d understand. But it’s been less than a year!
However, let me remind everyone again that these guys were very nice, and they are fixing it. It’s not everywhere that you get even that kind of service.
But a week to get there, a week back, 2 weeks turnaround on their part and I’m out of my synth for a month, and it cost me as well.
–Edit yeah, I they folks I bought it from said to go straight to Moog…
I had a Barbetta 31c amp once that needed repairs. I don’t know if any of you have dealt with Tony Barbetta before, but I’ll just say it wasn’t a pleasent experience. Excellent engineer, bad business man. Took me about a month of calling the company and leaving messages before I final got ahold of Tony. Then I sent it in and had to pay shipping both ways, cost about $100 total.I think he even charged me for repairs, and it was under warranty! By the time I got it back (about an month later) I was so happy to get it back, I didn’t care what it cost.
Point is, it could be worse. Moog is one of the best companies I’ve ever dealt with. They sent me some rubber feet for my moogerfoogers for free, they even paid shipping! A few years ago, a friend of mine emailed Moog with a complaint about his MF101 (i dont remeber what it was). Bob Moog himself emailed him back apologizing saying he would do everything he could to make it right!
I wish all companies would pay for shipping both ways too, but I know that is not realistic. Whats $70? At least your Moog will be working again!
PS. To whom it may concern, avoid the 31c. Check out my rant on the Yahoo Nord Electro board to see why.
Yeah, you’re right. I’m lucky enough to be able to afford such a synth, and for all the joy it has brought me, the thing has paid for itself. And $71 isn’t that much. It’d be nice if they paid both ways, but it’s really nothing to pout over.
I see your point. I had a positive expierence with Elektron when i first ordered my MD. If anyone is familiar, back in the days there were really no U.S. distributors. You had to order directly from them in Sweden. Well I got my MD and happy as a cat I started building patterns. But it would lock up and render the machine useless. Since i received it defective, they paid shipping both ways. Had this been 6months down the line or something, would probably had to eat the shipping to them.
My point, perhaps there should be a timeframe manufactures include to pay both ways? Yea, parts/labor under warranty for 1yr. But if something goes terribly wrong within the first two-weeks of receipt, free shipping both ways. I mean if I receive the shiit defective/broken forget paying shipping back to them. I’d be pissed.
I agree, if it just stops working out of the box the company should take it back and pay shipping. It is 100% their responsibility if you received it broken. If you bought it from an online store, I’m sure even the store might take it back.
But as you say, 6 months down the line a company can’t be expected to pay for shipping both ways. For all they know, you could have set it on fire and pissed on the ashes. They won’t know until they’ve received it.
BTW, the Machinedrum f’n rocks. I would love to get one of the new ones with sampling. Sidstation is cool too, but a buddy of mine has one and it is ridiculously noisy! Like almost unusable noisy, puts-a-clavinet-to-shame noisy.
After working in the MI industry for several years, I can tell you it IS an industry standard that you pay freight back for warranty service. If a retailer or manufactuer doesn’t make you pay, consider it a very generous offer. I know money is not always easy to come by, but that’s life. The alternatives are, never buy anything or accept it. ![]()
Hi everybody,
Last night, I had a same problem as “tunedlow”. When I am tweaking the mixer, suddenly I realized that there is no sound coming from OSC1. If I push the volume to max, very soft but very far sound coming, really low. After I reloaded the same preset as I am tweaking, the OSC1 came back to action. I couldn’t reproduce the problem again. I will try again. Anybody have any idea about the problem?

I just got an Electric Blue on Sunday. It was a floor model. Probably a bad idea right away. The people who sold it to me didn’t seem to know a lot about it. Neither did I. I asked why some of the presets didn’t seem to be doing anything. They said they didn’t know. I figured I get it all worked out when I got it home. No luck yet. Oscillator one seems to be DEAD. I tried to reload all the presets, but that didn’t help. My apologies if I’m missing something in the manual or on these forums that covers this problem in greater detail. Anyone have any troubleshooting tips for me, before I go to get a refund on my lemon?
Never buy anything unless you are sure it works properly and that if it doesnt you can put it right easily. You should have a warranty with the electric blue so if you are prepared to pay shipping get it back to moog and get them to fix it. Hopefully you got it for a good price!
Yes, I have a tip for you. Go back to that store and raise some Hell for selling you a broken Voyager. ![]()

Did you try what MC suggested to me - using it as a mod source and seeing it that works? I got mine back and it works great.
