Heavy Metal Phatty Demo

This is a little Demo I recorded last night with my LP (sorry, direct link doesn’t work so you have to copy and paste the URL on your web browser):

http://xoomer.alice.it/zorn/Zorn%20s%20Lair/Musica_files/Analog%20Metal%20Ballad.mp3

This song was recorded using only the LP except of course for the drums and the Pad on the first solo part.

I love this lead sound… It’s one of the best leads I’ve ever played…

Holy bleedin’ F*!! Thats the LP? It aint MY LP for sure. That sounds absolutely awesome. It sounds like guitar… you are obviously quite talented. :sunglasses:

What settings can I start from to get this type of sound & what sequencer (software) did you use? Wow. :open_mouth:

If you start from preset #25 (Guitar Gyros) it’s quite simple.
Turn the resonance at 3 o’clock and overload near max.
At this point you are very close to my sound.
Adjust the glide and the envelopes a little and assign the mod wheel to the filter and the job is done! I also used the pitch bender at +/- 12

What is really amazing is that the filter is also influenced by the keyboard dynamic so you can play in a very expressive way!

As concerns the sequencer I simply used Apple Garageband…

Cheers!

Sounds great Zorn !!!

What did you use for the pad ? I like the warmth of it !

The Overdriven Pad it’s another of my favorite sounds from the LP. The other Pad on the back it’s from the Korg Radias.

Link doesnt work for me :frowning:

Too bad you can’t do windmills on a keyboard. At least not and look cool about it.

Cool shreds. I liked the resonance burbling in there.

 I thought I’d tried the paste-into-the-browser technique… must have copied it wrong the first time.

I’m listening again for the second time, and this is a really expressive performance! Very nice work and good sounds. Thank you!

Very nice!

Awesome! I love it!

Great :sunglasses:

nice, very quirky!

Thank you i’m looking for a nice synth for pads !

This sounds great and it shows the capabilities of the Moog LP as a lead instrument. But it does not sound like a guitar at all. That´s rubbish.

?? who cares if it sounds like a genuine guitar? It’s a lead being played on a keyboard, in the spirit of traditional metal-guitar leads. The point isn’t to emulate an acoustic instrument flawlessly; the point is to rock out. Mission accomplished, I say. :sunglasses:

You are not playing guitar, are you?

Well, as I said, the LP sounds great in the piece Zorn has presented to us. It sounds great in his own right. But if you would like to reproduce the “spirit of traditional metal-guitar leads” - use a guitar - do not use a keyboard, it does not work.

No I do not play guitar. I agree with you DoctorNo, there is no question that you can’t play metal guitar except with a guitar. That’s like saying you can play a Minimoog lead on a Microkorg. Your position is that of a purist. This is OK. My belief is that you can say that you are inspired by guitar style and sound, and make cool music… it’s OK if what you are doing doesn’t sound anything like what has inspired you. As long as you are not pretending it is somehow the same thing, and Zorn is certainly not pretending that this is a guitar in his music. So, I don’t think it’s Rubbish… but I do understand where you are coming from.

“it sounds great in its own right” ← Here is where we agree.

Sure I am a purist  … This is the reason why I have bought a Moog synthesizer … the Moog Little Phatty … and the Moog LP is the best synthesizer, that I have ever bought … but I have bought the LP for the things that I cannot do with my guitar. In the end I think we agree.

I was out for a couple of months and I lost this thread…
I’m pleased you liked this track!

I really like Daft Punk, and the song Aerodynamic in particular, so I was only trying to recreate that kind of lead sound…
I’ve never been able to understand if that sound was made with a guitar or a synthesizer (maybe both…), so that’s how my sound came out.

The funny thing is that every time I play this sound, it makes me play in a different way than any other “classic” keyboard lead sound…
I find really amusing playing with a guitar style on a keyboard!!!

I wasn’t trying to steal the job of my guitarist…
