Hey everyone, I am thinking of buying my first Moog product and I have my eye on an electric blue moog voyager. In doing all the research that I can, I have learned of the annoying backlight hum problem. Some posts suggest that there was a fix coming out for the issue, so I am just wondering if I was to buy a brand new Electric Blue Voyager, would I be free from the hum? Or does it still plague these units?
Thank you so much!
As far as I know, the backlight hum is a non-issue now. ![]()
Mine’s silent, and I have dog-ears. I sold my Wavestation partly because the inverter whine made me want to kill things.
I turned down some funky illuminated USB leads for much the same reason; they have EL wire in with tiny inverters.
THe backlit has been fixed. It is a hardware upgrade.
Hi,
Do you know the name of the upgrade or part? Field or factory?
Thanks
Its called the “Quiet II Technology”.

This is a Factory Upgrade.
Purchasing Info
You will need to ship the unit to the Moog factory.
Step one is to obtain a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number.
Use our online RMA Request. Register your Voyager. Choose “Customer Service” and click “Repair”. Follow the steps from there.
Alternatively, call Moog for an RMA# and order processing prior to shipping.
Step two: If you have the original packing material, we strongly suggest that you carefully pack the unit in it and overpack that box in another shipping box.
Do not ship your equipment to Moog Music until you have received an RMA number.
I knew I could count on you EricK. Thanks
lol You are welcome! Its my pleasure.
It’s worth pointing out that the “upgrade” refers to older Voyagers… all new Voyagers with backlighting (Electric Blue included) have been built with this quiet backlight for the past 1-2 years.
The “Quiet II Technology” upgrade does this include a new woodblock with the back-light control pot?
I’m considering to upgrade my digital board to V3 and the “Quiet II Technology” since my control pot has issues and are not being made anymore, also I figured it’s not that easy to get it fixed.
I consider having my unit upgraded to today’s versions.
thanks Buzz
I notice a huge improvement after I upgraded, I can play with the lights all the way up without being bothered by that nasty tone I had before, really cool !!!
Btw…great username for somebody who had his hummmm problem solved… ![]()
Have fun with your upgrade…![]()
The Voyager had that hum because it didn’t know the words.
Mine just whistles.
Thanks, I do enjoy the upgrades… I really have to force myself to say “Ok that’s enough for today/night” ![]()
