glide not working correctly? or is it user error..?

first, i just got my voyager and having a blast! but ive noticed a few presets dont glide the way im expecting them to.

tasty moog bass as the A1 preset will glide down, but when i press a key higher than the current note it doesnt glide until i let go of the bottom note. this doesnt seem normal as most of the other presets will glide “normally,” such as, when i press a note it glides to it no matter if its higher or lower.

is is this normal or do i need to return this beautiful synth :unamused:

First of all, welcome.

Second, don’t panic. Your Voyager is working fine.

The Moog Voyager has 4 keyboard modes: the usual low note priority (the one programmed on the patch preset Tasty Moog Bass A1), higher note priority, last note priority, and single note only.
Depending on what mode is selected when a patch is cerated and saved, or what mode was selected to prepare the presets, the Voyager’s keyboard will behave differently.

They are described on page 53 of the online pdf user manual.
Low note priority will prevent any higher note than the one played, until you release it. Higher note priority is the opposite. Last note priority will play any new note relative to the last one played. And single note only, will play only one note and no other, until all notes are released first.

I strongly suggest you take a good look at the user manual, and familiarize yourself with your marvelous instrument. The Voyager is a rather complex monophonic synth, with many more settings and modes accessible through the onboard software.

Hope you’re reassured ?

Have fun.

Al.

… and the Voyager has 8 different glide modes…

so 8 glide modes * 4 keyboard modes * 2 trigger modes = 64 different possibilities on behavior when playing. And then you get all those ten-thousends of sounds possible.

I would not recommend the Voyager as beginner synth. Its a marvelous high-end analog synth.

thanks for the replys everyone, perhaps i made that post in haste… the next morning, i found the page in the manual which relates exactly to what i was experiencing. sorry for the noob question. i have other synths and the glide is not so complex (MK, jv-1080, various VA plugins.. diva being the best of the bunch).

ive got everything squared away now and a few distortion pedals going through the mix out/filter in! what an amazing sound for leads and basslines. could not be happier with my purchase

glad to see the moog community is full of helpful audiophiles too. makes me feel right at home

@till - thats an impressive list of moog products you own. do you have any music that youve produced with those bad boys!?
