General Taurus Question

Hi All,

What exactly gives the Taurus such a tight low end? Are the oscillators and filters different than those found in a Voyager or Phatty? Are they ‘tuned’ lower? If not, wouldn’t one be able to get the same low end from these other units?

Cheers!

The huge low end sound comes from the AC coupling between the filter and VCA. The tightness of the sound comes from the OTA components in the filter and VCA which are overdriven for a slight “compression” effect. The timbre and resonance of the Taurus filter is a product of the OTA used in the feedback architecture. The RC coupling between the VCO/VCF/VCA stages must be optimal to pass low frequencies. All of these traits were duplicated from the original Taurus I. Filter tuning has nothing to do with their sound.

These traits cannot be duplicated in the Voyager or Phatty.
