I’m curious about gates and if it’s possible to get a 5v signal out of an MF-102 that could substitute for an LFO-controlled gate.
If that’s not do-able, does anybody know of any module or standalone LFO-controlled gate that isn’t ensconced in a sequencer??? CP-201 maybe???
What I’m looking to do is fire the Envelope or S&H gates on a Voyager in different time than keyboard strikes.
I guess what would really be cool would be a Mooger that just fired gate signals in time to an LFO with either an envelope or another LFO to control to control the gate time. Is this gonna be included in the CP-201??? Literature says it outputs gates but doesn’t talk about gate times being adjustable.
Okay, here’s another idea… what about passing the VX-351 gate output through a 104 delay circuit. Does the pulse survive with enough strength to act as a gate if I patch the audio output into a gate input???
Hey Rudi---- here’s an idea---- for the next sw upgrade how about pot-mapping the LFO to trigger the touchscreen gate out of the VX-351???
Maybe you are thinking of a 911A dual trigger delay?
Is this what you mean by triggering the gate in a time other than the keystrokes?
I think there was already a thread about trying to pass control signals through the Delay and a poster commented that an email to him from Moog music warned DO NOT TRY THAT. The Something about the DC capacitors blocked those low frequency signals.
THat thread can be found here: http://moogmusic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5283
The CP-251 has a Square Wave LFO output, which can be used as a CV gate output. If you need an envelope from that you could use the lag processor to shape it a bit.
The FreqBox and the Lowpass Filter both use the audio input to create an envelope which is then output as a CV envelope also.
The CP-201 should be able to do 4 different Gates/CV envelope outputs at a time I believe, but I am still waiting for the manual for confirmation.
I was just reading the FreqBox and CP-251 manuals and noticed they both output +/- 2.5v peak-to-peak. With the CP-251 maybe I can raise that to 5 to open the gate.

I want to fire the envelopes on the Voyager in kind of the same manner a sequencer would while patching another audio source through the external input and the filter. Ala “Baba O’ Riley” if you will.
I’m gonna try the LFO’s off the 251 and the FreqBox. I’m thinking the FreqBox is the better bet.
Got a chance to mess around with this idea last night and had some interesting results.
The LFO on the MF-102 works great, just needs a little juicing from the CP-251. You have to twiddle a bit to find the right offset amount.
The FreqBox VCO range is a bit high for use as a gate, but maybe a little negative CV on the Freq control can bring it down, but I haven’t tried it yet. The variable waveforms make interesting gates.
If you try this out be aware you want to set the filter cutoff high enough so it doesn’t kill off most of your signal. Also, be aware that different patches have different filter settings embedded, so long-attack filter effects may leave you scratching your head wondering what happened to your audio signal… leastways it did on this end. But the tones I was getting out of this setup last night was enough to pull my kid away from his videogames and we recorded 30 minutes of chaotic noise and gated-filter melody lines.
I can’t wait for the Frostwave to try some stairstepping effects on the filter cutoff.
