The August 2006 US edition of Future Music magazine features a highly favorable review of the Little Phatty synthesizer, saying:
“the Little Phatty’s savvy control layout and portable dimensions accentuate its strength as a performance synthesizer… few (synths) are designed with cool retro-future looks, beer-google tweaking simplicity and PA-busting sonics that earmark Moog’s Little Phatty”.
In addition to the review, the accompanying CR-ROM features MP3 audio examples and a video tour of the Little Phatty from Brian Kehew.
thanks for the heads up but its a shame the magazine is so expensive and full of the most amateur reviews ive ever read. maybe the lp review will be better than the usual chuff thats written…
Although FM’s review is the first to hit the newsstands (they scooped Keyboard, EM, SOS, et al), the review was based on a prototype, not the production version. While that makes it harder to make a proper evaluation, I think there was enough ‘substance’ in the hardware and software to make a basic impression - and in this case they were impressed.
I agree that FM’s reviews are not in the same league as those in other mags, in particular SOS (the best of the bunch, IMO). However, getting a review of the instrument - any review - is better than nothing for those who are starved for information as they wait for the LP to be released. Of course, this will all change very soon as the reviews start pouring in and the instrument shows up in music shops.
